In this workshop you'll delve into the art of crafting a traditional wooden cup known as a Kuksa. This class is mainly for people who have their own lathe, but anyone can attend. It won't turn you into a skilled woodturner - that takes long hours of practice in your own workshop. But this is an opportunity to troubleshoot and refine your technique. You will learn how to avoid tool catches and get a finish that needs little sanding. It will give you a foundation to build on later. You are welcome to take along your own turning tools if you wish so that Terry can check their condition for you. Terry will clearly explain and demonstrate the proper use of the different spindle turning tools. There will be plenty of hands-on practice time. Classes are taught on a one-to-one basis, allowing Terry to give you the benefit of his undivided attention. He is a very experienced turner and a patient, friendly and approachable tutor

This workshop teaches the art of sharpening your hand tools, focussing on spoon carving tools including knives, crook knives and carving axes. The ticket is for four adults and can be booked for a day and time to suit the group. You will learn to sharpen tools that we provide, or you can bring along your own tools that need sharpening. Stephen, your tutor, has been carving for over 30 years and has a wealth of experience and knowledge in this field. You will be supported throughout and he will be on hand with advice on the best kind of tools to buy. There will also be the opportunity to buy some during the session.

Come create your own fireside cooking utensils to make some tasty outdoor snacks. This half-day workshop is a perfect introduction for children & adults alike to learn how to use whittling knives safely and effectively. Ideal for families who want to practise woodcraft at home, on camping trips or out in the woods! This one-to-one course is for people who've carved spoons from wood before, a few or many. Both student and tutor will bring along spoons for show and tell. Whether you struggle making a crank in your spoons, want to improve your knife finish, practice your axe technique to make better spoon blanks, try making scoops and ladles, or just want to stop making spoons that all look the same, this course will help you get there. We'll help you to develop your designs and technique. You'll carve an individual projects, tailored to help with your specific spoon dilemmas. We'll talk spoons all day long and then some more. Tools and wood are provided, but if you have your own tools please bring them along too. We'll advise on buying tools and if you're thinking of buying your own you can try out a range of axes and crook knives at our workshop.
