What you will do
The classes delivered by Gemma focus on improvisation and adaptation, aiming to encourage children's naturally inquisitive nature to express themselves and respond to their environment.
Using sensory materials to break up the sessions and get the young dancers to create their own sequence, we will build on their sense of ownership, and help them see themselves as masters of their own confidence. This is aided by partner work to build on balance and teamwork - showing how by working together, tasks and routines suddenly become much more achievable. At end of the session Gemma incorporates yoga and mediation to calm the mind and ensure they are ready for collection.
The £10 rate listed is for children.
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.

About your host, Gemma James - Spitalfields Silk Series
Gemma has always had a passion for understanding how the human body can express itself through movement.
"I remember sneaking into practice sessions whilst studying Choreography just so I could watch aspiring dance students progress and the sheer enjoyment they experienced after an impromptu moment suddenly becomes the focal point of their whole performance."
These questions have stayed with Gemma and now form the framework for her creative practice. What makes us move the way we do? What is it that impacts the quality of our movement? How does this effect our mood? Through her learning and work at Dartington collage of arts and then Laban School of Dance, Gemma understood that these questions are impossible to answer without a community around you to support your creativity. Since then Gemma has channeled this into her practice and this has allowed her to support communities across all ages and abilities. Gemma believes that working across these traditional boundaries allows for a different quality of movement and deepens learning from participants (alongside making for awesome creative routines!).
As a qualified Hatha yoga and creative dance teacher, Gemma love's nothing more than learning with others on how best to draw out individual self expression and connection with each other in her classes.
The class will take place in Old Spitalfields Market. The best meeting point is the inner market entrance of the shop Inspitalfields, and the address is 13 Lamb St, E1 6EA. Bring comfortable clothes to move around in, something warm to wrap up in and a water bottle. If you have a yoga mat bring that too!
All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
