What To Expect? Over 90 minutes, we’ll guide you through 1 or 2 paintings using watercolours. Like all talented athletes, we’ll start with a warm up, and then you'll apply different techniques to your work. Each month we look at something new that’ll be good enough to put in the fridge! FAQ’S? 1.How do I choose the right brush for my painting? The right brush depends on the type of painting you are creating. For larger washes, use a larger square brush, and for fine details, use a smaller brush. Round brushes are a good all-purpose choice for watercolour painting. See pictures for examples. Can I use watercolours on any type of paper? It's best to use watercolour paper, which is specially designed to absorb and hold watercolour paint. Regular paper may not hold up well to the wetness, cause abrasive rubbing and warp the paper. Will you provide materials? Materials won’t be provided for this class. Please provide your own materials. Just remember, the cheaper the palette, the lesser quality it maybe. Just like buying wine at a restaurant, always go for at least the second cheapest one. What colours will I need before the lesson? We can work with any colour palettes, there's always a way! This class aims to be accessible as much as possible so if you really are worried, send me a picture before of what you've got. What if I need to cancel? That’s ok! Sometimes these things happen so we try our best to accommodate you. This is a great team building exercise, teams of 4 people (recommended) can share a big canvas to add paint and other media to make an unique piece of art and learn some new things in a fun an inclusive way. During the 2-hour workshop, you will be using a range of materials and techniques to produce a piece you can keep. Blanca, the tutor will be able to guide you and answer any questions you may have. In this workshop, Lisa will guide you through the paint-making process from start to finish, giving tips and guidance on what to look out for when foraging for pigment. The making of natural watercolours is a very mediative process, each pigment with its own feel, smell and texture. All your senses will be used during this workshop and you should leave feeling a sense of calm. In this workshop you will: Learn how to create watercolour paint from scratch. Be shown how to forage for suitable earth materials in the local area. Grind the rocks/ earth you forage to a fine powder using a pestle and mortar and a sieve. Learn about the ingredients needed for making watercolours and the ratios needed for different pigments. Use a slab and muller to bind the pigment together ready to be used as paint. You will leave the workshop with one handmade watercolour, a PDF guide and the knowledge to continue making your own natural watercolours at home. This session will be hosted at Lisa’s Studio in Wood Green, North London. It will include a 45-minute walk to and around Alexandra Palace Park. Tickets are priced at £50 per person. This workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials are included. This workshop is for adults (or accompanied teenagers) only.
