Please be advised that we are unable to accommodate late arrivals exceeding a 10-minute delay to prevent disruptions to the ongoing class and inconvenience to others. Given that our studio is on the first floor, it would be unfair to ask other guests to wait while the class has already started to assist latecomers downstairs. We won't be able to answer texts or calls after the extra 10-minute allowance. This Life Drawing lessons (2 hours sessions) are ideal for those with little or no experience in drawing the human body, or those who want to refresh their technique. The structure of the class is as follows: An introduction to artists using the figure Experimenting with drawing mediums; charcoal and pencil drawing Mark making Exploring the basic anatomy of the body, the shapes within its structure, its overall silhouette and proportions Line and creating tone Movement of the body Expression by the model and artist So that you can truly learn to capture the human form, City Academy use nude life models in class. Anatomy studies You can choose if you want to bring your own art supply or you they can be provided for additional fee.

The session aims to offer a new way of interpreting and re-energising the traditional medium of still life. By creating colourful, sassy and dynamic still lives (no dead fruit or skulls here) Alice creates beautiful shapes, colours and subject matter to help you gain confidence in drawing and enjoy the process of mark making. The class is appropriate for all skill sets, whether you’re a master mark maker or a complete beginner. Included in ticket price Materials to use on the day, including watercolour paints, ink, a range of pastels, pens, pencils and charcoal. You will also be given a kit of materials to take away, including pencils, erasers, charcoal, and hand illustrated worksheets to help you continue drawing at home. Indian Ink will be available, so you may wish to bring an overall or wear suitable clothing. About the workshop leader: The Mark Makers is a London based pop up drawing workshop, run by freelance illustrator and designer Alice Nyong. Alice started the workshops in early 2016 with an aim to bring lots of the creative things that she loved together in one place. Fun and non - stuffy, the Mark Makers is about having some time to yourself, to be creative and expressive with no pressure from others or yourself.

Students will learn the building blocks of observational drawing and painting, foundations in colour, perspective, mark making, application and composition. Observational skills will allow you to build on your own work whilst engaging with the work of other artists to create a strong portfolio of research that will enable you to conceptually and technically create a work of art. Portfolio preparation for GCSE, A-Level and Scholarships is available to students who wish to expand their practice in a larger space and work on more challenging projects that might combine more than a single medium. Students can book one to one at flexible times, contact for more details and availability. Each lesson will be tailored to the interests and abilities of each individual student, therefore you will be able to learn and develop at your own pace. You have the option to book one or multiple sessions and attend on a weekly or ad-hoc basis- whichever suits your availability. These classes are perfectly suitable for beginners as well as more experienced artists and offer the opportunity to widen your creative expression.

A meditative 2 hours of experimentation and fun, helping you gain confidence in how to approach figurative drawing. For this special in person session we're excited to welcome portrait painter and artist Isabel Douglas-Hamilton who will help you on your way! Isabel's teaching will help you hone your observational skills and establish correct proportions in figure drawing with the use of classical drawing techniques. The class will start with Isabel demonstrating how to make simple gestural line drawings and we'll also put this to practice, loosening up and getting our eye in with short poses. Isabel will then do a more detailed demonstration to show how she approaches the figures including some useful ways of measuring basic proportions. Never joined a life drawing session before? Not confident with drawing yet…here is your chance to practice and improve with no judgement! Everyone is welcome, just pick up your pencil or any material lying around and start exploring! Meet your hosts Isabel Douglas Hamilton is a Scottish portrait artist based in London. She trained at the Stieglitz Academy in St. Petersburg, followed by Grand Central Atelier in New York. She currently takes portrait commissions from her studio in Battersea. Sasha Galitzine is a curator & producer who specialises in commissioning site-specific art work & performance with and for communities. She has been leading these life drawing sessions since the start of the first lockdown, giving some useful tips and pointers. It's a chance to relax, focus, experiment, practice and be amongst supportive and encouraging community of artists of all abilities.

As with all London Drawing life drawing classes expect an inspiring venue, great models and professional, friendly tuition- with poses from 1 minute to 1 hour there is something for everyone and all abilities are welcome. You can buy materials in the class or bring your own. All classes are tutored, so if you are more of a beginner just let the tutor know you might need a hand and they will be happy to help! The drawing space is small and intimate and lit with very strong lighting which is great to draw in. Expect interesting, varied and professional models in a great and interesting space!
