What you will do
6 hour workshop
Get together with other spoon lovers and learn from each others work, techniques and mistakes. Try new woods and tools. Make spoons!
In this workshop
This course is for people who've carved spoons from wood before, a few or many. We'll all bring our spoons along for show and tell, and help everyone to develop their designs and technique. Whether you struggle making a crank in your spoons, want to improve your knife finish, practice your axe technique to make better spoon blanks, try making scoops and ladles, or just want to stop making spoons that all look the same, this course will help you get there.
Everyone will work on individual projects, tailored to help each person with their spoon dilemmas. We'll talk spoons all day long and then some more. Then we'll end the day with a spoon club (collectively making spoons, a game of consequences with knives).
Tools and wood are provided, but if you have your own tools please bring them along too. We'll advise on buying tools and if you're thinking of buying your own you can try out a range of axes and crook knives at our workshop.
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
This is a Flexitime class, which means the teacher can run this class around your schedule.

About your host, London Green Wood
London Green Wood is a non-profit community of woodworkers practising rural crafts in the city. Based at Abney Park Cemetery, a small woodland in Hackney, we work with green wood straight from the log and hand tools. All the wood we use has been felled locally.
We have been running events and teaching courses at our woodland workshop since 2011. We promise a beautiful setting, friendly people, the satisfaction of learning new skills and a fire when it gets chilly. We run courses for adults, for groups and for families. We also run a twice weekly 'Wood Club' community workshop and monthly volunteering days to build equipment at the workshop.
Bring along a spoon you have made before.
