Rushmere Farm’s spoon carving workshop will guide you through the process of turning a log into a unique wooden spoon, using only knives and an axe. We will cover:
Wood selection
Splitting wood into billets
Elements of spoon design, and understanding grain structure
Using an axe to carve the rough shape
Safe and effective knife grips for refining the shape
Using a hook knife to hollow out the ‘bowl’ of the spoon
Finishing and treating the spoon
All of this will take place in a peaceful woodland setting, with homemade lunches and snacks provided throughout the day. You’ll go home with your very own spoon, hopefully having caught the spoon carving bug!
The course runs from 10am until 4pm, and is suitable for beginners - equally, it can be adapted for those with some spoon carving experience.
All tools and materials are provided. Please wear closed-toed, sturdy footwear, and dress for the weather.
If you would like to stay the night, please let us know.
