Rushmere Farm’s spoon carving workshop will guide you through the process of turning a log into a unique wooden spoon, using only knives and an axe. We will cover:
- Wood selection
- Splitting wood into billets
- Elements of spoon design, and understanding grain structure
- Using an axe to carve the rough shape
- Safe and effective knife grips for refining the shape
- Using a hook knife to hollow out the ‘bowl’ of the spoon
- Finishing and treating the spoon
