If you are a beginner or feeling a bit rusty we will give you a basic introduction to using a sewing machine to enable you to sew a seam and top stitch to neatly finish off. There will be a selection of fabrics and bits and bobs for you to work with, but if you have a special garment, baby sheet or other fabric you would like to upcycle into a special item, bring it along. We will discuss the best way to work with your fabric and how to make your stocking unique and special to you. You can decorate your stocking or sack, for example appliqué a letter or patch a selection of fabrics together. The workshop is held in our dedicated Stitch Studio where you will have access to all sorts of bits and bobs to embellish your work. Sam will be on hand throughout to guide and troubleshoot with you to ensure that you have the confidence to create the best christmas stocking or sack while building your sewing and making skills.

Passing on important skills to the next generation is essential. Basic sewing skills is one of them to help our kids set up a more sustainable way of living through mending, altering and working with textiles. We have the power to change the future of the planet with our most beloved person. Show a good example to your kid(s) by learning new textile skills and share an afternoon of fun together. We give you and your children the opportunity to come into our fully equipped studio, and spend a lovely afternoon creating, playing and learning about textiles. You could bring your skirt to shorten, or other garments/accessories to fix. Alternatively we could make a nice fabric pouch or bag together with your children. Upon your arrival, we could have a chat with you two to find the best project for the session. If you’re looking for something purely creative, we could also make a mixed media textile art picture and practice several techniques by having fun and igniting your creativity in an entertaining way. Some skills that you could learn: How to use the sewing machine How to cut, pin, sew and iron fabrics Introduction to mending: hand-sewing techniques How to make basic alterations like hem or shorten a trousers Dry felting Embroidery To keeps the class focused on everyone’s personal needs, we are only taking on 4 students per workshop. You should buy one adult ticket for yourself and a kids ticket for your children. Please note that the course will only go ahead if we receive a minimum of 2 bookings. We have set the age limit to 7 years old but please get in touch in case you have any questions. In the event that we need to cancel the class, you will be reimbursed. Please note that we can hold this workshop on request if you have a date in mind that we can accommodate. Book an hour with Sabina and the sewing machine and overlocker, to go through whatever you need help with. She has taught how to make pretty much everything over the the years here so bring any garment or just yourself. Sabina can start right at the begining with machine sewing, getting you started on a project, or help you with something more advanced. It will just be you and her in the shop as we close to the public at 4pm. Our machines and workspaces are wiped down inbetween users to comply with covid regulations.
