In this beginner-friendly class, you'll spend the first few minutes saying 'hello' to the clay and doing activities to get a feel for the wheel. This helps to orientate your body to the spinning movement while you apply pressure to the clay.
Next, you'll see a step-by-step demonstration on the wheel, and you'll be guided through the stages of making pots. Wheel throwing makes it possible to create polished, refined and symmetrical bowls.
There are different stages to making pots - these include throwing, trimming, firing, glazing and firing again. As a two-hour taster class, this session will focus on the first stage of wheel throwing and is ideal for anyone wanting to try out the wheel before committing to a longer course.
You will be encouraged to experiment and play with different shapes and see what the wheel is capable of.
The class is for one or two people (if you book for just one person, it will be a one-on-one class). This is a technique class. The clear directions you receive will help you decide if to pursue wheel throwing further, which hopefully you do!
You are welcome to take your pot home, but please be aware that it will not have gone through the trimming, glazing and firing process. If you would like to learn those steps, please book a further session and Leanne would be delighted to guide you through them.
