13. Introduction to Patchwork
This is a modern take on an old favourite. Patchwork is a traditional technique that uses bits of left over fabric to create quilts or cushions covers but these days it is used for so much more. You will be amazed how colourful, small bits of fabric can come together, up-cycled to create things of beauty. They can also be used to make up skirts, jackets and even accessories such as scarves, collars and jewellery or used to make inserts and patches to mend, giving pops of colour and updating clothing, breathing new life into old favourites . With patchwork recycling bits of old and unused fabric becomes easy and very fashionable. Our experienced seamstress Pat Stevens will be teaching you. What you will learn: This is an Introduction to patchwork course for sewers/ quilters starting out or continuing your journey in patchwork with a machine sewing. In this course you will learn the basics of how to make a patchwork piece that can be used within many other projects. You will ideally need be proficient on a sewing machine. We have Janome sewing machines for you to use, cutting mats , scissors and rotary cutters. Tea and light refreshments will be available. Should you wish to continue your journey we offer a Patchwork class Thursdays with Pat that you can sign up for at a later date. What you need to bring: Bring along fabrics from your stash at home or buy fabric from our selection in store which is also available pre cut strips. 16. Knitting Finishing Techniques Workshop!
With Sharon Wallin Finishing techniques are such an important skill to get your knitting projects done with ease and satisfaction! Once you have the know how everything falls into place. In the session with Sharon, you will learn: Different methods for joining seams How to invisibly weave in ends How to pick up stitches and knit around a neckline or armhole Sewing a button onto knitwear and making a worked loop What “blocking” is and why it can transform your knitted item This is an intermediate knitting class. You should already be able to stitch in knit and purl and be able to cast on and off. In order to get the most from this class, it would be helpful if you could bring along three knitted stocking stitch squares approximately 15cms (6inches) square. Please leave all loose ends (don’t weave them in!) Using 4mm needles and double knitting yarn will work well, alternatively, anything else of a similar weight that you have in your stash! Please bring your 4mm knitting needles and spare DK yarn with you on the day. The following equipment will be provided but if you would prefer to bring your own, the following items would be helpful: Scissors; a large eyed needle, pins with a larger head, a button COST: £40 total (includes refreshments & biscuits DATE & TIME: Saturday 9th April, 12.30-2.30pm DURATION: 2 hours in total (2 hours each class) WHAT TO BRING : A notebook and pen if you wish to jot down ideas. 17. Learn to Crochet Floral Hexagonal Granny Squares!
Want to make gorgeous fabulous floral hexagonal granny squares that would make your grannies jealous! Come take a class with Sharon Wallin at Stitch to learn to create colourful, hexagonal granny squares and join them to make blankets, throws, scarfs and even jumpers. At Stitch's latest 2 hour crochet workshop we will focus on how you can use colour and texture to create unique and beautiful designs with. If you have completed Beginners Crochet or have basic crochet skills, would like to know how to do the basic granny square and like to have fun experimenting with design and colour and potentially new yarns, this is for YOU! You need to be a confident beginner. You will learn to crochet in the round, including double, treble crochet. And learn how to create the hexagonal shape and a range of joining techniques to create your design. We look forward to seeing you for a morning of beautiful stitching and creating!
