6 hour class
This is a one day introductory class, where you will learn the very basics of throwing on the potters wheel. This will include weighing and preparing balls of clay before you start, then the basics of the wheel - from centering your clay, pulling, shaping and working with your tools, beginning to learn the techniques of throwing bowls and cylinders.
This is a fun and quick way to introduce yourself to throwing on the wheel and is suitable for complete beginners.
It will be messy and fun and is a great way to find out if you would like to do more.
Expect to keep anywhere between 1-5 pieces, depending on what happens when you are throwing! Each piece will be bisque fired for you and then fired again in a glaze firing with a tin white glaze.
Your pieces will be ready for pickup usually within three weeks of your class, but sometimes longer. Pick up will be arranged via Giulietta who runs the studio.
There will be a maximum of eight people attending this class.
Each person has their own dedicated potters wheel.

About your host, Crown Works Pottery
Crown Works Pottery is based in East London, tucked away in an old Victorian mews, near to Bethnal Green and run by potter Giulietta Hextall.
The Pottery has a small selection of full time makers, all creating bespoke ceramics and developing their practices.
Giulietta runs the studio as a small school, teaching taster, beginner and intermediate throwing classes. All classes are taught by professional full time potters, with a passion for sharing their knowledge of this diverse material. The classes are kept to a limited number of people, eight per session, keeping the classes intimate and allowing for all students to be given sufficient help in a friendly atmosphere. Most classes occur in the evenings during the week, but we also do occasional intensive weekend workshops.
Aprons will be provided, but please don't wear your best clothes as you are likely to get muddy! All materials, glazes and firings is included.
All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
