What you will do
2.5 hour class
A long-held tradition in our house, decorating gingerbread houses is one of my favourite activities at this time of year, but only too often it gets hijacked by the kids! Come and join me for an evening of candy canes and powdered sugar, peppermints and glitter, and decorate your very own, fully pre-built house. All decorations and candy will be provided, as well as some seasonally inspired canapés and a glass of hot spiced cider or Gluwein to keep you going! Each guest will take home their very own house and an evening of memories full of Christmas Cheer, sparkles and cinnamon ... and quite possibly a candy cane or two! Bring some friends or make some on night!
Beer, wine or soft drinks will also be available to purchase on the night.
Note 1: This workshop is taking place at the communal tables at the Rise & Vine wine store in Kensal Rise, 30 Station Terrace, NW10 5RP. It is within walking distance of multiple public transport options (see instructions section).
Note 2: Heirlooms & Wooden Spoons events are always great opportunities to switch off and get immersed. Feel free to turn off your phone, and escape the world for a couple of hours! You do not need to bring anything with you, other than perhaps a sense of humour and the willingness to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in!
Note 3: Still and Sparkling water will be available throughout the class, but you will be able to purchase fantastic beer and wine from the wine shop, where the knowledgeable owners Guy and Shaun will be able to guide you.
Note 4: By purchasing this class you are confirming that you understand that you will be working with potentially dangerous kitchen equipment and that you waive any and all rights to make claims for any injury or accident sustained.
Note 5: Please ensure you arrive on time (but not early as we will be setting up)! I can highly recommend grabbing a coffee at one of our lovely nearby cafés , such as L’Angolo, Urban Soul, Cable Co. or Messapica if you arrive early!
Note 6: Unfortunately, we are unable to accept returns or process refunds at this time. If you are unable to make your class please feel free to give your slot to a friend ;)
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
This is a Flexitime class, which means the teacher can run this class around your schedule.

About your host, Heirlooms & Wooden Spoons
The Heirlooms & Wooden Spoons Teaching Kitchen is situated in a stunning, light-filled residential space in North West London. Laura likes to create a relaxed and accessible atmosphere in which to learn, whilst ensuring the school is fully equipped with the highest quality kit and ingredients. Classes are kept to a maximum of 6, ensuring high student to teacher ratio and ensuring classes are intimate and relaxed.
Laura is a joyful and irreverent teacher, and she strives to maintain a calm and fun environment in which to learn, whilst imparting professional knowledge and genuine chef tricks and tips. She has worked in the industry both as a chef and as a teacher in London, Singapore and the US. In addition, her experience as an instructor at the Culinary Institute of America makes her uniquely qualified to teach, and gives her an interesting perspective on food history as well as food future, the ethics of eating, and a particular personal interest in vegetarian and vegan recipes.
Laura's fascination with forgotten skills and vintage kitchenalia seeps into many of her recipes and techniques. She is forever finding antique equipment and tableware, and often uses vintage items and long forgotten techniques in her classes.
Laura believes that your hands are your greatest tools, so be ready for a truly immersive class (not just demonstrations). Unless otherwise stated, all classes are hands-on, and you will get to make and taste everything. Each class is designed to finish with a meal to be enjoyed with your fellow cooks, or take your creations home to share. Regardless of experience, you will be challenged and inspired to return home with renewed confidence, and new friends!
