Daytime

In this class you will learn to make a full Indian meal including four classic Indian recipes from scratch using fresh ingredients.

The dishes taught in these classes vary considering ingredients and food that is generally available and consumed during different times of the year. The menu typically includes a vegetarian and a meat/seafood main dish along with rice and accompaniments (raita or chutney). In addition to cooking these classic recipes, you will also learn about the history, traditions and stories behind these dishes.

As part of this experience, you will gain valuable tips to set up your own little Indian kitchen and preparing basics such as spice blends, pastes etc to make your life easier when cooking Indian food. We also spend time discussing and going through my spice pantry which will leave you with a greater understanding of the application and benefits of various spices used every day in Indian cooking.

My classes are hands-on, fun and sociable. We will start the day with a cup of masala chai or lassi while discussing the menu. You will then roll up your sleeves and get stuck in preparing the dishes after which we will sit down together and enjoy the food you’ve cooked, or you can take food home if you prefer.

SAMPLE MENUS:

MENU 1 Mushroom Matar Masala (Mushrooms and peas cooked in an onion tomato sauce) Palak Murgh (Spinach chicken) Jeera Basmati Rice (Basmati rice flavoured with cumin and onions) Pineapple Mint Raita (Yogurt flavoured with pineapple and mint)

MENU 2 Keema Matar (Minced lamb cooked with peas in aromatic spices) Punjabi Dal Fry (Classic North Indian lentils) Jeera Basmati (Basmati rice flavoured with cumin and onions) Aloo Pyaaz Raita (Yogurt flavoured with boiled potato and red onion)

MENU 3 Coriander Chicken Curry (Chicken cooked in a paste of fresh coriander, mint and spices) Adraki Aloo Gobi (Cauliflower and potatoes cooked with fresh ginger and turmeric) Jeera Basmati Rice (Basmati rice flavoured with cumin and onions) Mixed Vegetable Raita (Yogurt flavoured with finely chopped vegetables)

My husband and son went to a Saturday class with Nidhi at Meri Rasoi. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were very pleased with the chicken curry and dhal dishes they cooked. What thrilled my husband the most was learning how to cook rice properly. They have promised to recreate the dishes for me next weekend so I will also get to taste them! Thank you Nidhi, we would recommend this class to anyone who loves cooking.

Nidhi was a fantastic teacher. She welcomed me into her home and brought Indian cooking alive with her passion and knowledge for spices and the food she cooks. The class was incredibly organised and each dish was carefully talked through before I was then able to get suck in. A fabulous class!

As my boyfriend had got more interested in cooking over the last year I bought us both a place on Nidhi's cookery class. The whole morning was a great experience- from the initial chai tea to sitting down to eat our Indian dishes at the end. Every aspect of the cooking was explained in an interesting way and everyone had the chance to get involved. Thank you Nidhi for hosting us at your home, we would definitely recommend.

Meri Rasoi is a great cookery school run by the engaging and knowledgeable host, Nidhi. This was a great opportunity to understand the basics of Indian cooking and the variety of spices used. We learnt how to cook a curry and the best part to taste it afterwards. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in Indian cooking. The class will give you the confidence to cook traditional Indian curries at home.
