2 hour workshop
A great opportunity to learn the basic techniques of screen printing on to fabric with an experienced teacher. Screen printing with paper stencils is a brilliant starting point for learning the process of pulling ink through an open screen to create your own unique designs and is easy to set up at home.
The space is a wonderful environment to try something new and creative in a small group. Classes are just 4 guests per session so you will have plenty of one to one support.
Helen will guide you through the whole process and we'll each try a quick sample print on to fabric, to spark ideas and show you the ropes. You'll then have time to create paper stencils using scissors and/or scalpel, ready to print your own unique design on to a tote bag or tea towel. You are welcome to explore the many books and visual references in the studio to inspire and help you get started.
There will be plenty of time to experiment and pick and choose colours from the studio collection. All inks are water based.
Price includes a choice of a tote bag or tea towel for each participant. Additional items may be purchased if required.
You can also bring along your own item of clothing to print on to - 100% cotton, light coloured fabric is best.

About your host, Helen Rawlinson Design
Helen is a textile designer, based at the Chocolate Factory studios N16, London. She hand screen prints designs for a variety of interior accessories .
She has over 20 years experience in screen printing and with an MA in mixed media/embroidery at the RCA her work also has a stitched quality and is the signature to her original lampshade range. Helen's teaching experience is extensive having worked for several years at the Make Lounge in Islington - she enjoyed teaching screen printing, lampshade making and machine embroidery to a lively, sociable after work crowd. She runs occasional after school and holiday workshops at The Bath House Children's Centre in Hackney and has taken print workshops into local primary schools.
Helen is now pleased to be offering beginners screen printing classes from her fully equipped print studio for both adults and children.
Children and young people are incredibly curious and receptive to the hands on experience of screen printing and Helen is enjoying the opportunity to give back to the younger generation of creatives, eager to learn.
For adult workshops - this is a chance to try something new - have fun with friends and get creative without fear of messing up - screen printing is all about surprise and uncertainty with some amazing results, whether intentional or not and it's all good stuff.
We will be using A4 and A3 size screens and water based inks for printing in class. Aprons are provided, but please consider wearing clothes/shoes you don't mind getting messy in. You are welcome to bring any drawings and visual references with you to inspire your prints. As we will be using paper stencils to print, please avoid fine lines and small font. Strong black and white images work best. Consider Matisse style cut outs, simple silhouettes and shapes. For evening bookings, you are very welcome to bring your own wine/snacks etc.
