A great opportunity to learn the basic techniques of screen printing onto fabric with an experienced teacher. Screen printing with paper stencils is a brilliant starting point for learning the process of pulling ink through an open screen to create your own unique designs and is easy to set up at home.
The studio is a wonderful environment to try something new and creative.
This session is a private class for one, so can be tailored to suit your requirements, whether you are totally new to screen printing or would like to refresh your skills and try new techniques.
Helen will guide you through the whole process, from the equipment needed to showing samples and discussing ideas. After making a simple test print, you'll then have time to draw and create paper stencils using scissors and/or scalpel, ready to print a design onto a tote bag, tea towel, or piece of fabric. Additional items can be bought on the day or you can bring your own materials if you want to practice more as time allows. For a minimal cost, I can also make up a cushion from any fabric you print onto, to pick up or post at a later date. You are welcome to explore the many books and visual references in the studio to inspire and help you get started.
There will be plenty of time to experiment and pick and choose colours from the studio collection or even mix your own inks.
All inks are water-based.
Price includes a choice of a tote bag, tea towel or 40cm square of fabric for each participant. A range of kids size t-shirts is also available. Additional items may be purchased if required.
You can also bring along your own item of clothing or fabric to print on to - 100% cotton, light-coloured fabric is best.
Please note that this class does not involve the photographic process of exposing images onto a screen. Information can be supplied about this process but we will only be using paper stencils in this session given the short time frame.
