What you will do
3 hour workshop
Use metallic foiling to print fabulous t-shirts, unique fabrics, beautiful cushions and lots of other creative projects. Foiled fabrics are washable, long-lasting and very easy to hand print at home. It's also a stunning way to embellish your sewing and embroidery work. You will be able to choose from gold, silver, copper and coloured foils and Gabriela will show how to use these creatively through stencilling, stamping and painting. As well as guiding you through the technical process, she will help you design compositions that work. The workshop is equally suitable for complete beginners as well as for more experienced creative people who may want to add an extra technique to their existing repertoire, particularly those who are into clothesmaking or textile art. By the end of the session you will leave the studio with your own reference samples showing the different application methods. You are welcome to bring your own fabric or items or clothing to work on, and Gabriela will advise you on their suitability.
Everything taught can be repeated at home so get ready to be inspired!

About your host, Gabriela Szulman Art
Gabriela is an artist and maker. She creates prints and collages, greeting cards, jewellery and scarves with images inspired by memory, nostalgia and a love of everything vintage.
Her work is often humorous and whimsical – unless her romantic side takes over and then you enter into a fairy-tale territory of old-fashioned script, pages of books and music scores populated by chivalrous gentlemen, glamorous ladies, butterflies and rabbits. She blends a fusion of painting and digital media – acrylic, watercolour and ink with digital print – onto paper and canvas to create pictures, quirky greetings cards and a range of “art to wear” which so far includes silk scarves and a jewellery collection.
Old photograph albums, vintage documents, magazines, books, cards, knitting pattern books and scraps of writing are things that make Gabriela very happy. Second-hand bookshops, junk shops, market stalls, attics and long-forgotten boxes are her treasure trove.
In addition to her own creative pursuits, she is passionate about inspiring other people and sharing her skills, so she devotes a good portion of her time to teaching.
Please bring an apron and a carrier bag. If you want to experiment on your own items, feel free to bring t-shirts or other clothing, keeping in mind that the fabric needs to be absolutely flat under the heat press. Black cotton works really well so this is provided for your samples but if you want to try the technique on other fabrics do bring them with you. Please bear in mind that anything heavily textured or knitted is unsuitable.
