What you will do
4 hour workshop
If you are a beginner or feeling a bit rusty we will give you a basic introduction to using a sewing machine to enable you to sew a seam and top stitch to neatly finish off.
There will be a selection of fabrics and bits and bobs for you to work with, but if you have a special garment, baby sheet or other fabric you would like to upcycle into a special item, bring it along.
We will discuss the best way to work with your fabric and how to make your stocking unique and special to you. You can decorate your stocking or sack, for example appliqué a letter or patch a selection of fabrics together.
The workshop is held in our dedicated Stitch Studio where you will have access to all sorts of bits and bobs to embellish your work. Sam will be on hand throughout to guide and troubleshoot with you to ensure that you have the confidence to create the best christmas stocking or sack while building your sewing and making skills.
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
This is a Flexitime class, which means the teacher can run this class around your schedule.

About your host, Stitch Club
Stitch Club is a place to relax, learn and create. Each workshops is tailored to the attendees' requirements: whether you are a beginner or wanting to build on existing skills, whether your style is totally practical, slightly wonky or somewhere in between; they will work with you to achieve your best.
The workshop leaders have many years of both industry and teaching experience. Most workshops are led by Sam Harvey, a practising textile artist who has been running Stitch Club for over 10 years. Dress/Pattern Making workshops are run by Christina Figur, who studied Tailoring and Fashion Design in Norway, Italy and England before working as a designer for the likes of Top Shop and Paul Smith and who brings a wonderful Nordic aesthetic to our work. Stitch Club's background ensure that they appreciate the beauty and value in the quirky details; in making unique items and not just mass produced pieces.
Stitch Club loves passing on skills that they know will be useful, not just because you can drive a sewing machine or sew on a button, but because it helps you to relax and unwind in a mindful and creative way that is a fundamental human thing to do. Making, especially in a group, is one of the best things to do when you need some time out.
Use of our fabrics, haberdashery and equipment is included. If you wish you can bring your own. If you want to bring your own sewing machine please bring your instruction book.
All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
