An art journal is a great place to experiment and try out different approaches to art without the pressure of creating a masterpiece. It is an artistic form of self-expression – instead of using words alone; you will be using various media and different art techniques to express your creativity.

FAQs
What can we expect in these Art Journaling drop-in sessions?
Each week we explore different mediums, themes, and techniques to create our Art journal pages. The sessions begin with a 3-minute Mindfulness practice followed by a clear explanation about the day’s project. You will be guided throughout with clear step-by-step instructions and demonstrations.
I am a complete beginner – will I be able to do Art Journaling?
Our drop-in sessions are suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced artists. Dr. Sai Banerjee, who is an experienced teaching artist and calligrapher, teaches all our sessions. Having taught hundreds of students with varying skill levels, Sai is adept at recognising the challenges that a beginner might face. By following a process-based approach to teaching, Sai simplifies seemingly complex techniques to make it accessible for everyone.
What age group is this drop-in session suitable for?
Our Art journaling sessions are suitable for adults of all ages (16+).
I am new to the group will be able to fit in and follow along with the projects?
Our weekly Art journaling sessions are all about creativity, community, and camaraderie. Our regular students are a friendly, warm, and welcoming group of like-minded people who come together to create. Most newcomers feel very comfortable fitting into the group. Each week we work on individual projects and explore different mediums, themes, and techniques. So it’s quite easy to keep up with the projects.
What are your class sizes?
Our class sizes are usually between 8-14 students. As these are drop-in sessions, our weekly student numbers may vary. As a general guideline, our maximum limit is 20 students per session, to ensure everyone gets individual attention.
What should we wear?
You may wear comfortable clothing with some layers as the temperature settings at our venue may vary. We will be using a variety of media during the sessions, which can sometimes get a bit messy - so please be mindful of long sleeves and jewellery.
Do we have to bring anything?
All materials will be provided. All you need to bring is your art journal and an open mind.
Are your classes Covid secure?
Yes. We take all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students. We sanitise all the tables and chairs before and after the session.
Where is your class located?
Cass Art 103 Clarence St, Kingston upon Thames KT1 1QY. The weekly drop-in sessions will be held at the Art Space, located on the first floor of Cass Art, Kingston. It is a lovely large gallery space with plenty of natural light and ventilation. The store is located just minutes from the Kingston train station, and can be easily accessed by public transport.
How do we get there?
By public transport - Train – Southwest trains to Kingston. Cass Art is a 5-min walk from the Kingston station. - Buses – Several buses stop on Eden Street, which is the nearest stop. Please check your bus routes. - By car – Parking is available nearby at Cattle market carpark and Bentall’s centre carpark.
If I am unable to attend the class can I get a refund?
If you wish to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, you need to give us at least 1 days notice. We are unable to offer a refund but you are welcome to reschedule and book another session as we run classes every week as well as other workshops throughout the year.
Do you teach private lessons?
Yes. I occasionally teach private lessons for Corporates and small groups.

I love Sai’s classes! I have been attending her art journaling sessions for several years now and have found her to be an unfailingly kind, welcoming and supportive teacher. The calm and therapeutic atmosphere, her own beautiful work and constant flow of ideas, along with the lively chat and exchange of ideas within the group, are all a real source of inspiration and help me to express my own creativity and imagination. Thank you Sai

Such fantastic art classes, Sai is a patient and engaging teacher, each class is well thought out and delivered in easy to follow style, the time just flies by!

Venue was light and airy. Very spacious. I learnt that planning ahead is good to ensure a smoother lesson, Sai helps this by giving pre class/lesson information that helps. The lesson itself was fun and Sai managed all the differing levels of abilities in a great way. I certainly feel this is so much more than an art class...but a friendly meeting of new and old friends

I attended the Art Journaling for Wellbeing drop-in classes held at CASS art in Kingston, I found the sessions opened a whole new world of creativity for me as I was not somebody who was typically arty or creative. Each session has a theme and a focus that keeps it fresh and engaging, Sai puts, everyone, at ease and talks you through the process, as well as the technical and theoretical aspects. What attracted me most to these classes was the mindfulness and wellbeing element, and this is what really makes these classes unique. I highly recommend these to anyone at all levels, go with an open mind and enjoy!
