Ultimate Introduction to Photography: South Bank, London

Really enjoyed the session. I went as a complete novice, but learned a lot - Matt was consistently supportive and insightful, with infinite patience for one still trying to work out what all the buttons do, while providing plenty of ideas on how to compose better shots....

Really good experience, learning about both how to use my camera and how to frame better photos

I attended the beginners course on 29th August without a clue how to use my new camera. It was great to be able to pick up some skills, pther than auto, to help me along the way to start taking better photos.

Matthew organised the group well, where we had time at the beginning to learn about the three important settings to take a good photo. We became familiar with our own cameras and Matthew helped us, if we were not sure. We had time to take pictures with the tasks he set us, which allowed us time to review our images. Southbank is a lovely location and taking pictures in Leach Street, felt quite overwhelming. But Matthew helped by asking us to take pictures that show depth, interest and mood, in order to tell a story. It made me realise the hours photographers put in and the patience needed to take their pictures. London at night is magical and it was a great way to end, learning how to use my camera to take a night shot and the best time is in the blue hour. A great course as I learnt how to set up my camera for the type of shots I wanted, and Matthew kindly viewed my pictures to guide me on the composition of a good photo. Thank you.

I did the introduction to photography lesson on the south bank and it exceeded my expectations. Matthew was informative, patient and took time to help with everyone’s different cameras. He showed genuine interest in what we wanted to gain from the experience and helped individuals accordingly. His lesson was well thought out and planned while being relaxed enough for us to play and learn. I left filled with knowledge I did not have before and would highly recommend his lessons.

Matt is super knowledgeable & talented but was also able to translate this into layman’s terms for my beginner knowledge. The time flew by and I got to use the camera and learn to take photos in different environments and using techniques that I can use again. Highly recommend

What a great day. I didn’t really know what to expect, the course said beginner and I truly was a beginner full of rediculous questions and a camera I didn’t know how to work. The group size was small enough so that even though some of the people were obviously not as beginner as me I still had all my questions answered and I felt as though Matthew had time to answer me without being rushed. I didn’t come away an expert but I have a much better idea of how to use my camera and I took some awesome shots on the day that I didn’t believe I’d get

What a fantastic workshop! Matthew made me feel at ease and settled my frustrations about my DSLR from the get go. Everything was explained so simply and the locations we visited were a great way of experimenting with so many different styles of photos. A double rainbow appearing over St Paul's Cathedral definitely wasn't in the script and just solidified to me that no matter the weather, there is always a photo to be taken! I thoroughly enjoyed the day and cannot wait to book on to the night shoot workshop next. Thank you Matthew!

I'm so pleased I choose the Ultimate Introduction to Photography workshop as my first step into the photography world. I'd recently bought a camera, but really didn't know where to start! After an afternoon with Matt I now feel so much more comfortable with my camera and a variety of the settings, along with having a much better eye for how to make a photograph more interesting. It was a lovely afternoon with a great bunch of people and has only encouraged me to want to learn more!

Simply excellent. Matt was clear and patient in covering the basics of using the camera, and composition. A very enjoyable 5 and 1/2 hours.

I can highly recommend this course! My 14 year old son and I undertook this course and we both felt that we had learned so much; from mastering basic technical skills, learning more about our cameras, and how to compose photographs. It is wonderful way to get to know the Waterloo and South Bank area, and is a truly enjoyable experience. I attended one of Matthew's 'Ultimate Introduction to Photography' Workshops in London, I thought this was great and highly recommend this to others. I learnt a lot and enjoyed this session and as a result have booked both Matthew's 'Wildlife' and 'Shutter Speed' further Workshops which I am looking forward to and advancing my photography skills.

Matthew did a nice job providing the basics for the beginner photographer. He is knowledgeable of the variety of cameras used by the students and he is very willing to help with settings. The Southbank has a good variety of learning locations. The class size was small enough that everyone felt they could get individual assistance. Even those familiar with photography are able to learn new skills. I’m happy to recommend Matthew’s course.

I really enjoyed the Photography class with Matthew. He is incredibly patient and was able to explain the difference between shutter speed, aperture, focus and various other settings in a way that I will actually remember!! Great course, very helpful for me as a beginner to photography. Matthew never made you feel silly for asking basic questions and was more than happy to help everyone and meet them at their own individual levels. Great locations used throughout the afternoon allowed for a variety of camera settings to be explained and then practiced. Along with the small group size, suitable pace, Matthew was very approachable, explained techniques effectively, and there was always opportunity to ask questions. I would definitely recommend this workshop to others!

Great evening on the Southbank with Matt. I learnt so much in such a short time, and managed to get some great (yes still some not so great...) pictures on the way. I'm looking forward to building on the lessons over coming weeks to further improve my Photography.

Matthew provided a great course for beginners. He was very friendly personable and easy to talk to. It was a small group which was nice as we all got lots of time to ask questions and get Matthew’s help. We went through some really useful aspects of the camera that would allow us get better use out of our cameras and to experiment more with effects and lighting. I would definitely recommend this course.

Only clue to whether this course would be worth it were the reviews, so here is mine. You'll find Matt to be very chilled and smiley. Initially I thought he was another student. There were only 4 students on my course, which meant there was plenty 1-2-1. His manner provides a calm confidence, and he knows his way around all the main types of camera, allowing you to achieve excellent effects. I noticed that he was quick to find that opportunity, and that inspired us all to look for that shot. It was a good evening with cloudy sunshine, so plenty dramatic light and sky. 5.5hours was plenty time, with a break at a Pret in the middle. Don't be afraid to take loads of photos, play with Matt's ideas and find that you understand the components very quickly. This course will give you the opportunity and confidence to move away from auto, portrait or landscape modes. Well worth it for the 1-2-1 time from someone who is clearly accomplished.
