What you will do
7 hour class
Jacobean embroidery is a traditional English embroidery. It has been enjoyed and practised for many centuries in UK and beyond. The charm of its design with its famous tree of life, hillocks, flora and fauna style, colours and quality of the materials and its strength and durability for interior decoration (such as cushions, fire screens, furniture, bed covers and curtains) have assured its popularity to the present day.
On the day, participants will embroider this design using traditional Jacobean linen twill, Appleton English wool on a 10 inch embroidery hoop.
On completion of the class participants will confidently be able to:
– Learn a number of decorative hand embroidery stitches including – Split stitch, plain/slanted and padded satin stitch, basic long and short stitch, chain, stem, herringbone, laid work, French knots, seeding, cross stitch and many more if students so wish.
– Learn how to plan and transfer a design onto fabric ready for the embroidery stitches
– Have picked up some ‘insider’ tips and tricks from a master craft person.
– Feel inspired to embark on your own embroidery designs!
Our classes are friendly, and are run by a professional specialist master embroiderer, tutor Bella Lane.

Fabrications is an independent gallery, shop and workshop dedicated to the best contemporary textile practice and design, with a particular interest in eco-conscious design.
Fabrications opened in June 2000 in a refurbished derelict shop on Broadway Market in Hackney, East London. Since 2012, "The Imaginarium", a fully-fitted working studio, has hosted workshops and classes.
Barley has been awarded as one of Kevin McCloud's (Grand Designs) Green Heroes for her minimally-processed, up-cycled products, which "demonstrate a lightness of touch backed up by a rigorous approach".
The class also Includes a special embroidery kit (value £15) prepared by Bella containing instruction sheets, good quality embroidery needle, threads, design, fabric and a complimentary glass of Prosecco at the end of the session!
