What happens in this class?

We all have that item of clothing. It could be the one that gets you compliments every time you wear it, or the one that makes you feel effortlessly like yourself. It may even be the comfiest item in your wardrobe!

In this class, you’ll create a paper pattern based on an existing garment to stitch up in multiple colours or with different materials. Through this, you’ll get to grips with some basic skills to then apply to other items in your closet. The possibilities are endless!

FAQs
Do you sew the garment in this class?
No, this class is designed to show you how to draft patterns from your existing clothes without damaging the garment. If you'd like help sewing the garment then we recommend our Sewing Surgery.
Do you have all the equipment that I need?
Yes, we have everything that you will need to copy your favorite item. You just need to bring in the garments.
Is this class online?
No, all our classes are in person in our studio in part of Crofton Park Library, SE4 2AG.
How big are the class sizes?
We like to keep our classes small so that everyone has enough teacher time. We generally have a maximum of 8. If there are more people wanting to join the class then we will have 2 teachers to make sure everyone still has enough teacher time.
I'm not sure what type of garment to bring in?
We recommend bringing 3-4 options for the garment that you would like to copy. Our experienced teachers will help you select the right item depending on your sewing ability. Stretch items or more structured woven garments are a good starting point for copying. Flimsy, silk or chiffon fabrics can be trickier to work with.
How many items will I get copied?
It all depends on your level and the complexity of the garments selected. We work 1-2-1 so some students may leave with one completed pattern while others may manage to finish more.

This class was enjoyable and instructive; it was really interesting to analyse the construction of a garment with help from the skilled tutors, and to learn how to make a pattern so I can recreate my own version.

I had only ever taken clothes apart to make a pattern and found the course extremely helpful as to how to keep a garment and still copy it. Jaime gave us lots of tips and hints and worked with everyone to help them develop at their own pace. She also gave guidance on fabrics, fixings and the plan for making the garment as well as making the pattern. An excellent session .

I have not done any sewing for a few years - well decades! - and wanted to make a pattern from one of my favourite tops - so decided to look for a class. I was recommended Make Mee studios and I have now been to the 'copy your clothes' class, and several sewing surgeries on Thursday lunchtimes. I have enjoyed myself so much and learnt a great deal from Jaime and Tracey! I have met other sewers too - and had great cake! And made myself a fabulous new top! I highly recommend them

Very useful session. Useful tips and the group was small so we each got a lot of help with our own projects.
