FAQs
What type of wool fibres will be used?
Your Tomte’s hat will be made using a combination of Perendale wool batt and merino wool pre-felt. Their beards are made from Gotland curly locks sheared from a small flock who live in Essex.
What is a Tomte?
Tomte are mythological creatures from Nordic folklore which today are typically associated with the winter solstice and Christmas. Generally described as short, having long beards and a tall conical hat in grey, red or another bright colour. They are sometimes portrayed as having the appearance of a garden gnome and Tomte translates to gnome in English.

What a fantastic team activity - we are all thrilled with our Tomtes! Heather was brilliant; very welcoming, relaxed and informative. She is clearly a brilliant artist and is at complete ease sharing her skills and knowledge. Great response from initial enquiry, booking and managing the session and really lovely atmosphere on the day. Thank you Heather! Our little tomte friends have settled in to their new homes and had their first virtual team meet on zoom this week! With huge thanks, The Affinity Team x 10!

I really enjoyed this course and the instructions were easy to follow, the raw wool we used and all natural products were lovely to handle. The process of felting and the atmosphere of the class was calming and paced well plus I ended up with a Christmas decoration I could buy in Skandium.

This was my first time felting and wet felting and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The time flew by and I’m very happy with my little Tomte. Heather was very helpful and encouraging, I’m looking forward to doing another workshop in the future :)

Absolutely loved this workshop making a Christmas Tomte! The materials we used were such high quality, leaving us with beautiful decorations which I can’t wait to put out at Christmas time. It was fun to see the different style/character of everyone’s Tomtes emerge. Thanks for a lovely afternoon and all of the creative support Heather (and for the delicious cake!).

Making a felt gnome needs some concentration but the result is very satisfying and the colours and materials are lovely. We were carefully and expertly instructed. (Tomte workshop)
