This workshop was BRILLIANT! One of the best workshops I have done by far. I was doubtful how it would work 'virtually', but it worked so well with the pre-sent materials. And it was amazing how much was covered in 2-hours. Yiran was such a lovely teacher - so personable and friendly and patient. 5-star all the way!

Excellent class - great teacher, explained everything very clearly and provided the opportunity to practice each stitch in the class. Materials arrived well in advance and were lovely. Highly recommend.

Brilliant workshop! Yiran is a first rate teacher, she made everything really straightforward and simple, which is impressive given that this was an online class. It was also really fascinating which meant I didn't feel screen fatigue, and the class was the right length (although I would happily have continued!). A very friendly vibe. Would highly recommend!

This was a digital workshop about sashiko - Japanese embroidery. I had a great time and Yiran was so patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. I appreciated how she worked at a tailored pace to make sure I was able to keep up. The embroideries are also fun and lovely to admire - we were sent all materials punctually before the workshop. Quality of the materials is great too. Overall I'm very happy with this experience. Thanks Yiran!
Lucy Crump - 24 August 2021
My daughter loves sewing and recently completed the Sashiko workshop. She loved this and found the stitching very relaxing and mindful. Yiran was a fantastic teacher - she made everything easy to follow and understand and we both loved hearing about the cultural background of Sashiko stitching. Thank you Yiran!
Paula - 22 August 2021
Yiran is a very friendly, passionate and clear teacher. I loved learning about the history of sachiko and have found the stitching practice so relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a mindful practice, with as an end result beautiful products!
Margaret - 9 August 2021
Yiran was a charming and professional tutor. She started the online lesson with a short history of Sashiko stitching which I found both interesting and informative and then we moved on to the beautiful sample pieces supplied by her for the class. Over the course of the lesson I learned all I needed to know to start stitching confidently with this new technique and I can recommend the class to anyone, beginner or experienced as a wonderful entry into Sashiko. The class was excellent value for money too with everything I needed for the lesson sent to me in advance so a big thank you to Yiran for a lovely workshop.
K Mather - 13 June 2021
I was the only student registered for my class today but rather than defer the class, which would have been perfectly understandable, Yiran did a one-to-one; I had undivided attention and the 2 hours just flew by. She managed to pack so much in (without rushing!) with information about the history of Sashiko and the traditional designs used in the class but also plenty of stitching time for the nicely spread variety of sample pieces (4) that formed the basis of the class. All the materials had been beautifully packaged and arrived through my letterbox a few days beforehand, and Yiran followed up after the class with links to further information and sources of or the material so I feel I will know where to go next when I complete my samples. I thought this was a great introduction to Sashiko; thank you again Yiran!

Absolutely lovely class - Yi was very knowledgeable and professional, and clearly had a real passion for what she taught. The setup was professional and the small number of students made it a very cosy and intimate lesson - the two hours flew by. I can’t wait to finish my little projects!
Melisa Thorneywork - 30 May 2021
Outstanding class! Wonderful teacher! I couldn’t believe what good value this class was, the workshop kit that arrived in advance was wonderful. The historical background and skills learned were a joy. Yiran was an exceptional teacher; knowledgeable, enthusiastic, fun, well prepared and very professional with a helpful camera on her hands. She also handmade all the kit we were sent so it was lovely to learn this craft with such beautiful quality materials. I could listen to her all day. Thank you SO much for such a special class!!
Irene Han - 10 May 2021
I had a fantastic class with Yiran, who took the time to introduce me to a brief history of sashiko before showing me how to do four different and very beautiful stitches. She was patient, clear and very friendly, and also helped me learn a new way of looking at the stitches, which was fascinating. She followed up the class with all the resources I needed to keep going. Highly recommend and thank you, Yiran!
Catriona Harris - 28 April 2021
Such a lovely experience! Yiran was so kind and generous with sharing her expertise and the story of Sashiko and her family heritage. It was fascinating, and such a calm and meditative experience. The materials for the class were carefully and lovingly prepared (a huge amount of effort had gone into their preparation) and arrived in very good time. Yiran is an excellent and encouraging teacher. I would throroughly recommend this experience, it was fascinating and inspiring.
SUSAN STEELE - 11 April 2021

Course came by recommendation. I was extremely pleased with the course. The tutor Yiran was very knowledgeable about the technique, very friendly in her approach and patient. I really feel I have learnt a lot and Yiran has given me confidence to complete the project and look towards more Sashiko designs and how I can use them in everyday projects, whether making small gifts or upcycling clothes.
Apphia - 25 March 2021
A wonderful introduction to Sashiko stitching, with plenty of hands-on practice and the right amount of background and history to provide context. I attended the course online and it was very easy to see the teacher's demonstrations. The teacher was very pleasant and informative, with a lovely calm manner. Highly recommended!
Emma Thompson - 25 March 2021
This online workshop via Zoom was such an enjoyable and absorbing escape from the stresses and worries of the pandemic. Yiran sent out the beautiful package of supplies so everything was ready for the workshop, and she paced the session perfectly, starting with the cultural context of Sashiko, and ending with inspiration for future projects. Working with 2 cameras enabled close ups of her work to ensure the demonstration was clear, and she made time for questions from the small group attending. This was a birthday treat, I'd highly recommend it as a gift for any crafty person.
Gabi Ward - 19 March 2021
A great introduction to Sashiko embroidery. The kit needed for the workshop arrived in plenty of time. Yiran is very friendly and a great ambassador for this traditional type of hand stitching which can also be used for mending clothing. I am looking forward to incorporating this into my sewing repertoire.
Chloe - 17 March 2021
I absolutely loved the class with Yiran and really enjoyed learning sashiko. Everything ran really smoothly with the kit of materials being mailed out in advance and the course run over Zoom. Yiran is really friendly and a great instructor, even with the disadvantage of having to run the class over zoom rather than in person, and throughout the class she shared a lot about sashiko, including plenty of tips and tricks; about the cultural heritage of the Bai ethnic minority she and her family belong to; and about her crafting journey. Would highly recommend this or any of Yiran's courses or products on her website.
Sarah - 17 March 2021
Yiran was such an engaging, informative and friendly host. She sent out the materials for the class in good time, which were beautifully wrapped and came with a lovely free block of black tea! The workshop was really well organised and great fun. We learned a little about the history and background of sashiko stitching, and had time to stitch several different patterns. Yiran's explanations were easy to follow, and she even sent out a follow up email straight after the workshop with useful links of where to buy sashiko materials and information about her hometown's cultural handcrafts. The workshop inspired me to start my own sashiko projects! Thanks Yiran for such a great afternoon!
Helen - 15 March 2021
We learnt about the history of Sashiko, and then had a go at creating 4 patterns using the stitching principles. Yiran was lovely, she was super knowledgable and passionate about her love for cultural crafts, she was a great teacher too. The workshop was online, and we were sent materials before the class so everything was really well organised.
Claire Chaudoir - 14 March 2021
I really enjoyed Yiran's class. She made it very easy to follow the instructions, despite the limitations of the Zoom format. The participants were lovely and the class had a lovely atmosphere. I left wanting to embark on several Sashiko projects, and it's great to know that Yiran's online shop has the authentic materials.
Georgie - 13 March 2021
Lovely workshop. Yiran is a good teacher- happy to show things again if didn’t quite get it the first time. The kit is great for beginners. Highly recommend

Fantastic workshop! Lovely calm pace, with support and help as needed. The group had different skill levels which Yiran dealt with effortlessly while keeping everyone going. The introduction to the history and culture of the craft was a wonderful start to the session. Follow up email gave links to places to buy all you would need to continue on your own (which I am doing). Highly recommend. I'll be doing other workshops asap :)
Karen Stokes - 10 March 2021
Quite fun and lots of interesting projects with the skills created from learning this craft. Worthwhile :)
Rachael - 7 March 2021
Yiran was a great teacher! Really friendly and welcoming. She spoke about the history of sashiko work before giving practical demonstrations of each stitch. The workshop was delivered online and despite not being able to see Yiran in person her delivery was excellent, she made everything very clear and easy to understand, and she had a very good camera set up so that you could see all of her stitching demonstrations clearly and follow along at your own pace.
Irene Baird - 7 March 2021

I spent an enjoyable 2 hours learning about the history and practice of Sashiko. Yiran was very friendly and engaging. The workshop ran via zoom and I’d recommend Yiran mute people during her history of sashiko - a participant’s canine house mate made his presence heard and made listening challenging in my session. Do this workshop. You won’t regret it!
Valerie Harfield-Simpson - 1 March 2021

I know much more about Sashiko thanks to Yiran and her workshop. The materials Yiran had prepared and sent out prior to the online class were high quality and lovely to work with. Yiran took us through the samples clearly and methodically, offering information and answering questions throughout. I have enjoyed experimenting with and completing the samples independently following the workshop. I will be ordering more materials from Yiran's online shop and look forward to working on more Sashiko soon. Thank you, Yiran!

Yi was very friendly and prompt to address any queries before the class. As a teacher she was excellent. After and an interesting talk about the background to the craft she led us carefully and methodically through the lesson. I felt able to ask questions, I didn't feel rushed and her instructions were very clear. The pack we received was beautifully presented and contained all I think I shall need to complete at least two projects if not more. I feel inspired to learn. more and hope to attend a further class with Yi . I shall recommend her to friends.

This was an excellent workshop. The tutor structured the activities very well so that we had the opportunity to try out 4 different designs. By the end of the session I was confident that I could put my new skills into practice and develop my own designs. Yiran is a great teacher and I felt a real sense of accomplishment. She was patient and very clear in her explanations and demonstrations. The cultural context that she provides to the technique was very interesting. All in all a very rewarding and relaxing way to send an afternoon. Thank you Yiran!
Jane Sasanow - 18 February 2021
This workshop was advertised on INSTAGRAM and I signed up for it on a whim. However, it was a very rewarding morning. I found Yuran welcoming, knowledgable and full of information. The materials pack arrived packaged well and of good quality. The only downside was not being able to converse with the other participants and handle the resources. I would definitely recommend the workshops to others. Thankyou
Caroline - 17 February 2021
What a great class! Thoroughly enjoyed learning the stitches and also about the history of Shashiko and Yiran was a great teacher. Really well run class, lovely intro, great teaching style from Yiran and presentation, time was well managed, good pace and just very relaxing and came away feeling inspired to do more. Thank you for a really enjoyable morning!
Sara Wood - 13 February 2021
Superb course - feel really inspired to finish the projects started with the course leader and rest of the group - as well as to explore more patterns. All of the basic elements of the craft have been taught to us in this session which is fantastic as you now feel able to explore further yourself- and the course leader has also sent us links to sites to help us with this too!
Heather - 8 February 2021
I love sewing and patchwork and this class didn’t disappoint. I am now hungry for more! The 2 hours passed so quickly and instructions were clear and concise. It was nice to share with others on Zoom, all different ages and backgrounds. I am looking forward to finishing my samples and increasing my knowledge of this ancient art of Sashiko. Thank you Yiran.

Whilst it was shame the class had to be online, it worked in my favour as \I live in Yorkshire so no travel costs! Yiran was great very informative about the origins of Sashiko and her demonstrations very clear. Having the pack sent as part the package was a great idea. 2 hours went so quickly but i am very happy to have a new hobby. Thanks Yiran

A perfect way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon in lockdown! The class was really interesting and Yiran was really welcoming and clear. The camera set up really helped see the detail of her work and helped me follow what she was doing. A really enjoyable and relaxing afternoon and a new skill I am keen to explore further.
Maia Balint - 27 January 2021
Yiran outlined the history and uses of sashiko stitching and then introduced us to 4 traditional patterns. She also shared variations of the many stitches and described how to design our own patterns. Her explanations and demos were clear and easy to understand, and she had lots of examples to show. Yiran is a lovely instructor, who offers lots of resources and support - and all the materials arrived in the mail on schedule. I really loved this course and would highly recommend it!
Beverly Blackburn - 27 January 2021
A lovely relaxing and informative class on Sashimi embroidery. Very impressed with quality of teaching and materials provided. It was great to hear the history of the stitching and the back story for the patterns as well as seeing some of the modern applications. We were given enough time to start the campervan I enjoyed it so much I went on to finish the small squares in the afternoon. I am looking forward to completing the bag and I have ideas for future projects.
Laura - 27 January 2021
This was the first online crating class I have taken part in and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon! Yiran was really welcoming and knowlegdable. The class had a mix of abilities in, we could all work at our own pace and Yiran was super helpful with any issues we had.
Rachael - 20 January 2021
A lovely stitching class to learn about the history of Sashiko and all the different styles and patterns that can be made. I also really enjoyed learning more about the Bai culture! The teacher was really friendly and made the instructions nice and simple so I could make good progress on the different samples that had been sent. I liked the opportunity to try different designs, even if I didn't finish them, as it gave me a good overall understanding of the stitching. I feel that the class was really accessible, especially because we had materials sent out to us so we were all working with the same items.
Lucinda - 17 January 2021
I took this class on Saturday 17th Jan. It was a great way to spend a January afternoon. Slow stitching is really meditative. Yiran is a great teacher, as the other reviews have said. She gives lots of information about the craft, really clear instructions, and you get stitching very quickly.
Agata - 16 January 2021
I was a little bit afraid that it was going to be dry or weird because it's online, but Yiran has been very good at making the atmosphere friendly and welcoming to anybody. I did some embroidery before, so I'm familiar with working with a needle, but still I felt like I learnt something during this workshop. Yiran was super cool about explaining some techniques 2-3 times during the workshop. She also patiently explained to us a more complicated pattern. I liked it more than learning from a youtube video or a book! I would definitely recommend this workshop to anyone who would like to start their first DIY project and thinks sashiko techinque looks nice :) but also people who have some experience can attend this workshop, it's super chill :)

It was great to have the option to do this class over Zoom during lockdown. It was handled with the utmost professionalism and I feel I was still able to follow what was happening as we had a small group and Yiran was happy to repeat while others continued with stitching at their own pace. The best thing though was definitely Yiran’s upbeat and happy personality. Thank you!

I learnt a lot about the history of Sashiko and of each individual pattern also the techniques involved in Sashiko. Yiran is a lovely friendly patient teacher. The presentation shared was very informative and clear. When teaching the techniques of stitching, everything was visible and clear. (Camera and lighting) The package she sent before the workshop was very neatly packed and secure. I highly recommend Yiran's workshops.

This was such a fun course. The teacher is amazing and takes you through what you need to know for Sashiko. I am a quilter and so excited to start using this in my quilts. Give the class a try, you will have wonderful little pieces out of it.

Yiran is an incredibly warm and friendly instructor who made for a brilliant session. Having received the session as a gift, I wasn't quite sure exactly how it'd unfold, but I absolutely loved it. I had no prior experience in anything similar to sashiko, but it was easy to pick up and enjoy. Perhaps helped by the fact I was in a small session, having the workshop over Zoom went really well. Conversation was light and easy. All in all, a good time! I'd highly recommend this, both as a great activity for yourself at home and as a gift to others.

Yiran was very friendly and welcoming with a lovely teaching style. The class had a logical progression, her explanations were clear and easy to follow and the kit she sent in advance was lovely to work with. We tried several different patterns which Yiran used to explain some key principles. She has a depth of knowledge and was able to answer all our questions with great tips and advice. As a result I feel confident with the sashiko basics now and ready to try a project. The class was enjoyable, relaxing and an excellent learning experience. I’ve done several online craft classes during lockdown and this one is my favourite so far!

What a brilliant, simple and lovely new craft to learn - and done so well online! A Japanese style of stitching, Sashiko which is a form of slow stitching. Who needs sewing machines when you can get back to hand sewn mending techniques! Yiran is a friendly and personable teacher, very patient with us and answered all my questions! I also enjoyed the historical overview at the start. I highly recommend, even if you do not do anything else with it, it's a very pleasant and relaxing 2 hours!

Really enjoyed this workshop there was no pressure to produce just a very pleasant informative experience
Marina - 13 November 2020
This was my first encounter with sashiko and embroidery in general, so I didn't expect to be able to make beautiful patterns but I was! Yiran's online class is very well set up, with a historical background introduction and overview of various patterns, followed by a close-up step-by-step view of the stitching process. I am already applying what I've learnt to mending and decorating my own clothes! Many thanks to a great teacher and a warm recommendation to anyone wanting to try it out.
Sarah Goddard - 12 November 2020
Incredible workshop!! Yiran was so friendly and welcoming. I have done sashiko a long time a go in my GCSE textile class but never knew the history behind the craft. Through this workshop I felt I was able to properly understand the meaning of sashiko and the beauty of the culture it comes from. I felt incredibly relaxed and meditative during the session. I would recommended Yiran's workshop to all my friends as I thought it was a beautiful way to spend a Saturday morning. I have booked my next one and cannot wait!

I just completed a two hour zoom Sashiko workshop with Yiran. It was very informative, creative & interactive. I received clear concise instructions & had time to try some alternative stitching techniques which I’ll continue to use. A Thoroughly worthwhile morning! Thank you Yiran.

Yiran was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable and she explained things clearly. The workshop started with her sharing some slides on the history of Sashiko and then we went through four different samples and stitched together. It was relaxing and a great way to spend a creative couple of hours. Yiran is organised and professional and I would recommend her workshop.

I learned the basics of sashiko. The teacher’s instructions were very clear and she was very friendly. The course took place via zoom and it was just myself and the teacher, which I wasn’t expecting, but it was great.

Yiran was very welcoming and guided me with much patience as I was completely new to it all. She was very kind to post me the course materials in amazing packaging and she has a breath of knowledge and I can recommend this to anyone willing to learn more about east asian crafts.

This was brilliant. Interesting, accessible and fun. Yiran was an open and encouraging teacher and we came away inspired with the possibilities of doing more Sashiko stitching. Really good value. Highly recommended.

This class is fantastic! Firstly the materials pack arrived quickly through the post and included everything you need. The teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable. They covered the history of the craft and different stitches in a simple way any beginner could follow and understand. There was plenty of time to practice each stitch in the class and ask any questions. I left the session with feeling very relaxed and inspired, with a new hobby!

This workshop is very helpful and informative if you are interested in Sashiko embroidery. As a beginner, I've not only learned the skills as to how to do the stitching and draw the pattern, but also gone through a cultural journey which is very enjoyable and even flames up my passion to Sashiko much more than before. This workshop does open the door to Sashiko for me. Thank you so much : )

Spent a very worthwhile 2 hours with Yiran at her online Sashiko Stitching workshop which translated perfectly via Zoom. A very personable teacher, with passion for ethnic minority crafts, openly shares her experience and cultural knowledge. I learnt more than expected about the source of sashiko and the stories behind it. Practical sewing exercises on provided samples meant learning was effective and thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommended.
