Two session course
What is the course about? This is an ideal course for those who have either attended our beginners course or have some previous experience in ceramics and want to work on ideas and self planned projects while developing and expanding their hand-building and decorating skills. You are encouraged to come with ideas and projects you would like to work on over the two days. You will be supported in making through group demonstrations of new techniques and one on one guidance, encouraging you to experiment with different materials and methods to develop your ceramic technique and ideas. Please bring a sketchbook and any reference materials for what you wish to make. There will also be some books and image reference provided.
Kiln firing will be explained. Selected work will be fired after the course.
Due to the time it takes for the clay to dry and be bisque fired, there would not be time for students to glaze their sculptures during the class. But the tutors can advise on a variety of surface finishes.
If you would like to glaze work from this course you can book a place on the Glazing evening. Basic glazing techniques will be taught, with advice on which glazes to use.
How will I be taught? Through practical demonstrations, examples of work, hand-outs and hands on work.
Are there any other costs? No, however the scale of the work is limited to insure all the students work fits into one kiln firing. The course cost includes all materials and two kiln firings.
Is there anything I need to bring? For health and safety reasons you should wear closed footwear (no sandals or flip flops). Aprons will be provided but it can get messy. Please bring a notebook.
Collecting work: Students will be notified when their work is ready to collect after the course has finished. This may take up to a month depending on workload. The pick up days and times will be emailed to you.
