Week 1: Preparing clay and Throwing 1.5 hours
We will start off by learning how to prepare clay in order to throw cylinders and bowls (all dependent on your skills) .
Week 2: Shaping and Bisque Firing 1 Hour
You will need to come back to trim your pieces the following week. By then your work will be dry enough to pick up and turn upside down. We will need to work on the base and sides using metal trimming tools. This part of the process can really transform your pieces.
When your pieces are finished , Melisa will put them in her electric kiln for the first firing at 1000 degrees.
Week 3: Glazing 1 hour
When your work has been fired, you will be contacted to come back and glaze your pieces using Melisa's glazes. Your work will then go into its second firing at 1260 degrees.
Melisa will then contact you to collect your work.
After these 3 sessions, you will definitely be equipped with knowledge :D ready to take home lovely handmade pieces!

About your host, Melisa Dora
Melisa Dora is a ceramic artist specialising in beautiful and versatile hand-thrown tableware, glazed in a fusion of vibrant and subtle colour combinations.
After graduating with a first class degree in ceramics and wood, Melisa went on to set up her own ceramics studio , working on a variety of tableware collections and freelance commissions for clients. She also teaches ceramic workshops in her London studio and enjoys passing on her own expertise and passion for making beautiful objects by hand. This has in turn informed her own professional development.
Melisa creates complementary coloured glazes, in a variety of textured and smooth finishes, which she mixes herself in her studio. These are layered onto simple forms to create crystalised surfaces and geometric patterns.
Melisa offers one to one and group sessions on the pottery wheel and handbuilding.
Please bring your own Apron or wear suitable clothing you don't mind getting mucky! Please make sure your nails are cut short as this may interfere with the clay.
