5 hour workshop
This is a pottery foundation workshop suitable for beginners. The workshop will introduce you to basic hand building techniques of pinching, coiling and slab building. It is ideal for students with no previous clay experience, a great opportunity to develop your skills and confidence in transforming the clay into a decorative or functional mug, bowl or plate. At the end of the course you will experience a personal proud moment of creation.
This beginners pottery class takes you through a journey of mixed hand building techniques in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Each technique will be introduced and explained at the beginning of each class. You will have plenty of time to create and explore.
You are going to use a plastic, smooth Pale Buff stoneware clay. This clay body recipe is a blend of selected low iron clays providing an ideal background for a decorative approach to stoneware ceramics. Silica sand makes it excellent for throwing on the pottery wheel too.
This clay firing range is 1120°C - 1280°C

About your host, Ceramics Sculpture Studio
Ceramics Sculpture Studio is an intimate, creative space that is accessible to anyone who shares a passion for clay and ceramics, from total beginners to professional artists.
Their classes and workshops are a creative journey through the medium of clay, covering techniques from hand building, throwing on a pottery wheel to glazing and firing. Their mission is to create beautiful ceramic artwork and to cultivate a great sense of well-being and personal growth. And of course, one of the best rewards of practising with clay is that it’s just plain fun.
The studio is located in the heart of West Hampstead, in a beautiful Victorian Warehouse under the patronage of Kingsgate Workshops Trust.
The workshop is run in a group of maximum 8 people. All materials, tools and firing are included. You will work with clay so it will get messy; please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. It is advised you not to wear jewellery like rings, bracelets or watches during the class as the clay may get into bits where it cannot be easily removed or they may get scratched.
