What you will do

3 hour class

Daytime

These classes are aimed at anyone - individuals, couples, friends, birthday parties - who would like to get creative on a Saturday afternoon but lacks either the space, materials or motivation to get started. Whether you want to paint a portrait for a friend's birthday present, replicate a famous painting for your own wall or just reconnect with your creative side, this is a space you can do just that.

The class is suitable for any level, from complete beginners to more experienced artists: Georgie will shape the guidance accordingly.

Come along with an idea in mind (maybe bring an image) and Georgie will get you set up with a canvas and materials. If you don't have anything with you on the day, don't worry - you can look around the farm or use anything in the studio as a starting point.

Georgie will talk you through the process of building texture, colour mixing, mark-making and learning how to create a good composition. She will guide you through the process of creating your personal artwork, with teaching tips along the way. There is a focus on following your intuition as your painting progresses, and enjoying the therapeutic benefits of making art rather than getting too concerned about the end result.

This is a chance for a wholesome Saturday of painting, lunch and meeting new people, with a chance to see the farm animals.

I have attended two of Georgie's Saturday classes. I'm new to painting and it was the perfect introductory class for me. The studio is easy to find in in a city farm with a lovely food market just outside the door. Georgie is friendly, interesting and easy to talk to. I enjoyed the conversation as much as the art! The atmosphere is relaxed. She lets you do your own thing and encourages you to find your own style but she is also very happy to share her own expertise and knowledge if you have any questions, need some inspiration or are feeling a bit stuck with a piece! I'll definitely be back.

I have just collected the painting I had framed after my fantastic sessions at 'Georgie's Saturdays'. I hadn't painted for years and this offered me the perfect solution to get back into it! Georgie is so inspiring, kind and patient and her enthusiasm is infectious. She gave me the confidence to just have a go and it's perfect being able to just turn up to a space set up for painting as it's hard to put space aside for that at home. Can't recommend it highly enough - a real therapy.

Georgie’s class was small and intimate! I went on a Saturday and it’s maximum of two students. She is an inspiring artist and great teacher. Really great conversation and unlocking my artistic side. Would highly recommend!

I really enjoyed Georgie's class, she is a great teacher and her studio is the perfect place to paint. Surrounded by lots of her beautiful paintings her studio in Stepney City Farm is a great venue to get inspired. I love Georgie's abstract style and her use of texture, so it was a great opportunity to learn her techniques. I will definitely be signing up for another class!

I loved my painting session with Georgie. She is warm, friendly, helpful and inspiring. We had a good chat about ideas for my painting and she gave me lots of ideas that aided my own creativity (I may have never thought to add texture with polyfilla otherwise!). The studio itself is in a lovely setting overlooking the farm with pigs, goats and hens. There is a farmers market too with lots of tasty offerings. Definitely an experience to be repeated, very calming and hugely enjoyable!

Great activity for a Saturday, I really enjoyed myself! Georgie is super helpful with showing you different painting techniques while letting you do your thing and be creative. Lots of different colours and canvasses to choose from. The venue (Stepney City Farm) is also really nice and has lots of animals, plants and a farmer's market.

Having not even picked up a paintbrush since school Georgie was really patient, incredibly helpful and clearly knows her stuff. The class was genuinely great fun, very relaxed and there was even time for a tour of the farm. Would highly recommend and will be back!

Lovely afternoon painting with Georgie - it was a fun & relaxed session, Georgie strikes a great balance between help & advice and allowing you freedom to do your own thing. The tea was free flowing, the donkeys were heehawing in the background on the farm outside, and I think we all left with paintings we liked and thoroughly enjoyed making. The perfect Saturday escape from the city grind! Thanks Georgie :) x

Georgie was very professional and encouraging. We were able to try a lot of different textures and techniques which I think were really fun. I was a bit shy about painting in the first place (I was offered this class by my partner) but I was glad to experience other techniques and had tons of fun in this class. It is very relaxed and the farm around the studio and Georgie's kindness makes it a charming and lovely experience. I recommend for any person who wishes to try or come back to painting.

A very instructive session helped me with a project I have not previously undertaken. This was to create a promotional art deco style Welsh Corgi poster by tracing from original jpeg images. Georgie suggested methods that I had not thought of by using marker pens. Now that I've got the hang of it, I'm getting new ideas all the time!! So, thank you Georgie for your Director Skills!

Great class, lot of fun and very relaxed. Not done any kind of art since school, over 15yrs ago, but loved every second of it. Georgie is so nice and the studio being on a city farm is the cherry on top.

The venue is really lovely in the Stepney City Farm. The studio is very bright and filled with art and there is a farmer's market every Saturday. The farm also has a terrific on-site cafe with a very healthy menu and great food. Georgie is just super and an accomplished artist who clearly loves the artistic process and inspires the students to try new things. I had some fine art training many years ago so I wanted a studio where I could go and get some inspiration and guidance in picking up painting again. Georgie has been really helpful in getting me started again and I've gone multiple times to work on different pieces. I've had a chance to see her work with different groups of students on Saturdays and everyone has a great time with the painting and meeting new folks. I have nothing but good things to about the class and Georgie's instruction.

I have had the pleasure of attending Georgie’s farm studio twice. Loved the experience both times and would highly recommend the experience. It feels like you are far away from the City of London and there’s a quaint farmers market on Saturdays as well!

Paint in an Artist's Studio on a Farm by Georgie Mason Studio - art in London

About your host, Georgie Mason Studio

Georgie is an abstract landscape/seascape painter working from her studio on Stepney City Farm in East London.

She has been teaching art classes for years, from home in Suffolk, then from Stoke Newington Old Church and at Artbox charity in London. Since moving to the city farm she has held landscape painting classes and 'Paint with Georgie' Saturday classes from her studio. The set-up is ideal, with glass double doors looking out onto the farm, animals all around, and neighboured by a spoon-carver and a ceramicist. It's a wholesome and creative environment, physically close but atmospherically very far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The classes are relaxed and Georgie offers guidance and structure but also allows for freedom of expression and if people want to experiment or do it their way, they're more then welcome!

In her own work, Georgie is inspired by the natural world, having been brought up in the Suffolk countryside. She uses a variety of materials to build texture including polyfilla and mud form the farm. Since graduating from a degree in English Literature and History of Art at Nottingham University in 2014, she has had work accepted into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Affordable Art Fairs and had solo shows at Boston Consulting Group, Palm Tree Gallery and Lavenham Hall Gallery. She’s had work shortlisted for the NEAC Annual Exhibition and NOA Prize and was winner of the Harry Walker Prize at the BSA Annual Exhibition. Her work is held in the private collection of the Museum of Goa in India and in boutique hotels across the UK.
