Classes

1.5 hour workshop

Evening

Calling all novice watercolour painters! This intensive class is tailored to meet the needs of those who are looking to begin gaining experience with using watercolour. Elizabeth specialises in vibrant boho floral prints but you are welcome to paint any subject which inspires you most! There is a maximum of up to six people per class in order that Elizabeth can spend enough time focusing on each individual. The class will begin with a short introduction to colour theory and working with cool and warm colour palettes. We will then explore colour mixing and go through some exercises to become familiar with using simple techniques and to practice different brush strokes. The rest of the class will be spent working on an individual final piece, painting from life. Elizabeth will continue to provide plenty of guidance and support, working with each student individually. By the end of the workshop, you should feel well acquainted with the fundamentals of watercolouring and feel confident to continue developing your own work and style at home. The class is taught using only the highest quality of materials. Elizabeth can also provide guidance on recommended brands and equipment for future use.

Did you know?

Watercolour doesn't have to be delicate. Renowned American artist Georgia O’Keeffe used watercolour as a means of exploring the intense colours and light she witnessed after moving to rural New Mexico. That's a real dosage of bright and bold colour!

An excellent introduction to watercolour for the absolute beginner. Lizzy, the teacher spent the first half of the session teaching us watercolour techniques including mixing shades, getting gradients and making shapes with the brush, it was really well planned out, I learned loads and ended up with a half decent painting of some lavender at the end of it as my first ever attempt at watercolour. Thanks so much Obby and Make More festival for a fab time!

About your host, Indi Skoven

Elizabeth is a full time watercolour artist based in Angel, Central London and has been painting since before she can remember! She is the founder and designer behind the brand Indi Skoven ‘Into the Woods’ Prints, a collection of watercolour botanical and nature-inspired prints designed for use within the home. Elizabeth is known professionally for her prints but she also enjoys painting cityscapes and people for pleasure. Her desire to put paintbrush to paper is inspired by many things, from wandering past bloom-laden city flower stalls to driving down summery country lanes. She loves to bring the prettiness and wonder of nature indoors, whilst rendering it a little bit quirky along the way.

Elizabeth loves to teach and is keen to help others develop a nuanced understanding of how to get the most out of using watercolours as an artistic medium. She is motivated by seeing her students grow in confidence, enabling them to begin creating work around the themes which they find most inspiring.
