What you will do
Two session course
This weekend course is led by Leo Crane, award-winning animator, painter and tutor. He is co-founder of Figuration, a creative studio for animation and design. He holds an MA (Distinction) in 3D Computer Animation and trained in painting under Maggi Hambling CBE.
From bold mark making to precision drawing, discover the expressive power of charcoal as you capture the human form. Working with a variety of life models, Leo will guide you through exercises that encourage experimentation and creative interpretation.
We start by looking at different approaches to drawing the figure. You will then make your first drawings in a speedy succession of mark making exercises. As the weekend develops, we will look at gesture, pose, proportion and composition, ending with longer poses. By the end of the course, you will have learnt how to depict the body confidently and creatively, leaving with a portfolio of your own drawings.
Each day we'll have a chance to share your work in progress with the group.
No experience is necessary. Bold mark making and a willingness to experiment will help you get the most from this course. For those with life drawing experience, the course offers you the chance to develop and apply your skills in an experimental context.

About your host, Minerva Workshop
The Minerva Workshop is located in Kentish Town in North London, in an old Victorian Warehouse full of creative businesses, and run by painter Lottie Cole.
The Minerva Workshop hosts masterclasses taught by artists and artisans as well as regular weekly classes. All the classes are taught by professional full-time artists and artisans, who love to share their knowledge and skill.
The classes are open to all levels, unless stated, and kept to a limited number of no more than 12. This keeps the classes intimate and allows for everyone to have sufficient help and encouragement in a friendly atmosphere.
As well as learning and expanding skills our goal is to send participants away refreshed and invigorated by sharing a creative experience.
This course runs on Saturday and Sunday.
