Sophie is an artist and physiotherapist who combines her knowledge of art and anatomy for this life drawing masterclass. Your tutor studied anatomy in the dissection rooms of Kings College London and has been a practising artist her whole life. A passionate art tutor Sophie makes her classes fun and informative and has been working and teaching from Studio 209 at Thames-side Studios since 2016. I had the great pleasure of having Sophie as my tutor. A unique thing about the class is that Sophie focuses on areas like breathing and frame of mind that help you produce art. She makes the distinction between expressionate artistic drawing and more technical drawing, which I found very useful. I was very satisfied with the drawings at the end of the session and feel I had improved a lot of areas that I hadn't previously considered! She also is very accommodating and tailors lesson to your experience.

The session was well organised with plenty of resources and a lovely light airy studio, with a wonderful model. Sophie was attentive, gently pushing me out of my comfort zone and encouraging me to produce works in unfamiliar media that I was really pleased with. As an educator myself, I was happy to have my experience broadened. I hope to work with both Sophie and Sophia in the future.

This was an excellent opportunity to loosen up my technique. We had a number of different poses - some short some long. Sophie was very friendly and encouraging. The model was also very friendly. This created a supportive atmosphere which allowed you to move out of your comfort zone and experiment with technique. The location was also good as it gave very good lighting creating good contrast on the model.

Sophie is an artist, primarily a painter she also works with ceramics, drawing, printmaking and digital media. She is a colourist with a keen interest in expressing herself and her experiences through bold colour and striking mark making. All of which can be seen in her abstract and figurative pieces, which often contain a deep emotional and imaginative content.

Sophie enjoys exploring daring contrasts in her work both aesthetically and psychologically. Sophie has always done people’s portraits and takes commissions and is happy working both from life and photography.
