This 3-hour welding class in London will teach you the basic skills of mig and arc welding.

This class will absolutely fly by but the knowledge you learn will stay with you forever. You get a chance to get extremely hands-on, with scrap metal so there is no need to be precious and under the supervision and guidance of a professional.

The basics of mig and arc welding are essential skills for if you want to carry on metal work. The skills of metal welding can be used in all sorts of art and used on different types of materials. It's an essential skill for any avid sculpture artists, although it can be dangerous. It is always best to learn these things with the help of a professional. You are not only taught the skill, but the essential safety information which you will practice all throughout your welding career.

Introductory Welding Class for Artists

This 2-day metal fabrication workshop will take you through a range of metal cutting techniques. Suitable for both beginners and those with previous experience you'll be offered professional advice from our experienced tutor throughout.

This two day ‘hands on’ workshop will explore a wide variety of metal construction techniques including cutting, rolling, bending, welding and riveting.

Focusing on introducing and understanding the many useful metalworking machines and processes available at LSW, the aim to get you up and running, able to design and fabricate useful objects and structures in metal.

Starting with some fundamentals on the first morning exploring the wide range of process and method available in the workshop through making, onto a second day of personal projects with professional advice and guidance from an experienced tutor.

For beginners there is a project available, but also useful professional advice and insight for creatives with their own project ideas.

It is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear.

Taught at the beautiful London Sculpture Workshop, on the banks of the river Thames, this course is designed for people with an interest in sculpture and welding. Meet other like-minded people, while practicing your passion and learning from a professional.

All safety precautions are considered and scrap metal is available for you to practice with before you dive into making your own creations.

Metal Fabrication Course for Artists and Designers

If you are new to crocheting with wire this  Beginners Wire Crochet Class is perfect for you - specifically designed for complete beginners even if you have never crocheted before - you will be amazed what you can achieve with this highly versatile technique. No experience necessary - just nifty fingers!

Even if you already know how to crochet this project will teach you all about working with wire, how it behaves, what it can and can’t do - and how it opens up a whole new world of 3-Dimensional jewellery design possibilities.

Join me at Cockpit Arts, Holborn for a day of fun making a Crochet Wire Necklace. We make a 3-strand beaded Necklace featuring different stitch variations on each strand.

We will cover the following tasks on the day:

how to cast-on crochet stitches

make foundation chain

add beads into individual stitches

how to crochet loops using a slip-stitch

how to finish off your piece and attach a vintage button clasp

Crochet Wire Jewellery with Beads for Beginners

In this 3-hour taster experience, you will learn how to handle the clay, roll it out, design, texture and shape it, dry and sand it and set a small stone or other embellishment, to make pendants, earrings or charms. You will design your own pieces (2 small pieces), using our samples and materials to give you inspiration, or you may come with your own ideas. Finally, you will fire your piece using a hand-torch and polish and finish it off with a jump-ring.

You can leave the workshop wearing your own hand crafted piece of fine silver jewellery as a gift to yourself or for friends and family!

This complete beginner's workshop is designed for people with little or no experience of jewellery making, crafting or silver clay, with a maximum of 4 people per workshop. It is held in a home-studio in London N8, in an informal, relaxed and calm atmosphere.

It's a really fun, uplifting experience that is totally absorbing and mindful - quite simply - a really great way to enjoy your creative side.


Beginners Silver Metal Clay - Design and Make Silver Earrings, Charms and Pendants

Suitable for Beginners. Viking Weave gives a result similar to French-Knitting but is woven by hand around a rod former. This means that you can use much thicker wire giving a very sturdy, sinuous tubular chain - no viking helmets required!

I have kept the project fairly simple so beginners can achieve a finished item in a day - either a necklace or hoop earrings - but with a stitch modification and further practice it is possible to achieve very strong yet flexible silver chains fit to grace any proud Viking's burial hoard...

We will cover the following tasks on the day:

how to create a ‘petal’ starter to guide your stitches

how to position and attach your starter to the former

how to weave stitches around your former

how to change colour and join in new sections of wire

how to magically transform your tubular weaving with a wooden drawplate - it's magic!

how to finish off your piece and attach fittings

I will also demonstrate several stitch variations for you to try for yourself after the class, or if you have time left over.

Viking Weave Jewellery - Make a woven Wire Necklace Class

Learn how to make a fabulous clutch bag (with a metal frame) to show off to all your friends! You don't need to be a pro for this class at all, but ideally you have enough sewing experience to sew a straight line on a sewing machine.

In this class

Everyone has a clutch somewhere. It's a timeless classic! But not everyone has made one themselves. Now that is a story to tell!

What you will learn:
how to sew a clutch
how to attach a snap frame
how to be the most stylish and coolest fashionista in your friend group (true story!)

On top if it all, there is no need to bring anything yourself. We will provide you with:
a metal snap frame and interfacing
recyclable fabric (e.g. vintage sheets, old shirts, etc)
any other sewing related material needed

Just bring your fabulous self and we will bring the materials (and some fellow clutch lovers!).

By the way:
If you want to recycle your own materials for your clutch, don't forget to bring them!

Laura and Sue are delighted to introduce you to the basics of working with silver clay.  Silver clay is a suspension of tiny particles of silver in a clay binder.  It can be moulded and manipulated in the same way as any modelling clay, but once fired, the binding agents are burnt off leaving the silver form intact. The beauty of this fantastic compound is that people with little or no previous experience can very quickly make their own fine silver jewellery without the need for specialist skills or equipment.
By the end of this 4-hour workshop you will be able to:
•	List the tools required to make a fine silver pendant
•	Handle and shape silver clay
•	Add texture and findings
•	Dry, smooth and fire the clay
•	Polish and finish your jewellery

At the end of the session, you will take away a bespoke pendant; inspired by nature, made by you.
No previous experience of jewellery making is needed.  Many people think that they are not creative.  We say EVERYONE is creative – you may not realise it just yet!  Being with like-minded people feeds your creativity, and flexing your creative muscle makes you more creative.  That’s what we love about running our classes.
Our classes are held in our studio in West London in a relaxed, comfortable, and friendly atmosphere.  We host a maximum of 7 people to give you the time and attention you need.
You don't need to bring anything with you as we supply all the tools and materials.  The cost of the workshop includes 5g of silver clay.  All you need is your creativity and enthusiasm.  There will be a limited number of tools, clay, and findings available for sale so that you can continue your jewellery making at home.  Cards and cash are accepted.
You might get a little dusty so wear your old clothes or bring an apron and as we’re working in our studio please do not wear open toed shoes.
