13. Dressmaking: Sewing with Stretch! Make a wrap dress
Want to learn and experiment sewing stretch fabrics? Then come and try our new workshop, in which you will bring along your own jersey fabrics (you will need 3 mtrs) and learn to use the overlocker and how to sew with stretch fabrics. From what needles to use to finishing off your hems! You will receive a free pattern, New Look 6581. Class breakdown: Using the measurement chart Cutting out a paper pattern Laying your pattern on fabric for stretch Pattern symbols and markings Cutting out Following and understanding a commercial pattern Sewing the dress Inserting sleeves Finishing and hemming stretch fabrics Class time: 10am - 5pm Only 6 people maximum per class You can view the fabric consumption per size on the picture provided. If you are new to using patterns, you can email the studio with your measurements, and we can advise you. Please provide Bust / waist / Hip / back neck to waist measurements. The pattern is available in UK size 10 - 18, but again check the size chart provided, commercial patterns are not the same as your retail size. COVID-19 Update: Your safety is important to us! We will now be reducing the size of the workshop from 6 people to 3 people per class, to adhere to the social distancing measures. As we are reducing the class numbers, it is important that students adhere and respect our cancellation policy, until we can get business back to normal, and teach at the required capacity. On entering, we will have sanitiser stations for you to freshen up. All machinery, sewing stations, and tools you will be using, will be sanitised before you arrive, and between each session. At your sewing station you will also have sanitiser wipes, should you feel you need to use them. Our lavatories are communal, but they will be supplied with sanitiser wipes, hand wash and disposable towels WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? Your required fabrics relevant to your size. Please remember fabrics must be stretch. DO I NEED TO PROVIDE INFORMATION BEFORE I ATTEND? No, just turn up on the day! WORKSHOP DURATION This is a 7 hour workshop. Classes start promptly, so make sure you are on time, to ensure you are not falling behind the other students. We will not be able to go over missed content. AGE RESTRICTIONS: This workshop is suitable for 14 years and above. All students under the age of 17, must be accompanied by a participating adult.

14. 8 week Dress Making
This extended and thorough 8-week dress-making course will give you a comprehensive understanding of dressmaking; learn valuable skills to make, alter, and fix clothes with us. This course is detailed and relaxed and our expert teacher will give you all the relevant knowledge to unlock your full creativity from idea to execution. Are you looking to learn how to sew and make your own clothes, alter your wardrobe, or add more personality and variety to your style? A personal learning plan will be made with you to follow your own interests and skill level whether you are a beginner or to advanced level. Whatever level of knowledge you have, we are here to help you to reach your individual aims with this in-depth course. No previous knowledge is required, we will teach you all you need to know! The small workshop size ensures valuable one-to-one teacher and participant time, allowing maximum engagement and assistance with your personal projects and goals. As a beginner: • We will teach you how to use the sewing machine and how to apply these skills to dressmaking. • We will help you to choose the right pattern with the appropriate fabric choice. • How to follow a paper pattern, and how to lay, cut, and prepare the fabric. • How to make a buttonhole/zip/waistband according to your project. • How to fit and professionally finish the dress. As an advanced seamstress: • You can bring your projects and we teach you to solve difficult technical details, like an invisible zip or how to line the jacket. • We will present you with practical technical methods and help you to invent your own pattern pieces. As a sustainable citizen: • We will teach you to build a step-by-step sustainable way of living regarding textiles and garments. • You will learn how to handle a sustainable wardrobe, and how to practically alter your own clothes. • We will share fast and easy mending methods from leather repair to hand sewing. These mixed classes prove that you will learn three times more by following your classmates' projects. To keep the class focused on everyone’s personal needs, we are only taking on 4 students. We have a welcoming and friendly community to serve everyone's needs and support each other in the studio. We would advise you to have a sewing machine available for the duration of the course to make sure you can practice at home between the course sessions. 15. Learn to Sew: Casual Basics Weekend Course
We’ve developed this course to take you from being a sewing novice to making your own useful, comfy and casual items of clothing. These gender neutral items mean anyone can begin to create their own comfortable wardrobe. We will be starting with a loose fitted pair of trousers or shorts, from non stretch fabrics, these could be pyjamas or for lounging around in, or smarter trousers with an elasticated waist. You’ll learn how to measure your body, (optional buttonholes & pockets if you are more of an advanced beginner), casings, hemming and more. Then we’ll take you through sewing stretch materials and you will tackle making a raglan sleeve sweatshirt, hoody or t-shirt, the choice is yours. You can even add pockets and your own customisation. This course is suitable for complete beginners who have never used a sewing machine before or those who have basic knowledge but want some practical clothes making guidance or simply want to learn different skills. You can work at your own pace, we have plenty to keep you occupied whatever your level. We know clothes making can seem like a daunting prospect at first but it's easy when you know how! It gives you the opportunity to be unique and creative with your style. It's a great way to relax and unwind, make new creative friends and you can become part of the growing Make Mee Community.
