Ever wanted to capture memories of a special event or family holiday but don't have the time to make a photo book?
Ever wished for a creative way your kids can create and treasure their own memories?
Zines are the answer! Simple, quick and easy DIY books employing the art of paper folding, zines are a great way to explore drawing, writing, memories and ideas.
Imagine holding a handmade book in your hands; the feeling of delight and sense of discovery as you turn the pages. Now imagine that book was created by you or your children; a unique, captivating handmade creation filled with personal memories and stories. Support children's natural curiosity and love for books by making your own books together!
This family activity is an adaptation of the popular Wellbeing Zine-making sessions run by The Art Room. In this 1.5 hour workshop with artist Sarah B Davies, we will use a memory of a special event or holiday to inspire our own handmade zines.
Ideal for young children and adults of all creative levels, participants can choose between filling their pages with expressive text or visual art, or both, through guided drawing and writing activities.
Zines are a powerfully tactile artform that can support wellbeing. This workshop takes place online to enable children and adults to relax and feel comfortable - vital when exploring our own wellbeing.
Once you have signed up for a workshop, you will receive a Family Zine-making Kit that contains gorgeous materials and treats, including: a set of beautiful handmade papers for everyone to create a book with; a folding tool; binding rings and a limited edition art zine delivered straight to your door.
This workshop suits adults and children at all levels, and is intended as a family activity - children should be accompanied and may need your help at times too.
Taking time to focus on ourselves and support our own and our family's wellbeing is more important than ever. We acknowledge there are many ways you can focus on your own wellbeing, including exercise, mindfulness and meditation as well as artistic endeavours. We believe creating artistic zines inspired by happy family memories offers one potential way to support the bigger picture of wellbeing and mental health and alongside other approaches.
So, cosy up, settle down and make zines together! once you start you may never stop!
