1. Beginners Ballet: 8 week Technique Course in Central London - come and join us!
Much awaited and highly requested by the London Ballet Classes Community; this Beginners Ballet Technique course is perfect for those completely new to ballet as well as those wanting to return to the basics and really refine and enhance their technique in a slower paced and mindfully delivered class. What is this course about: Regular dance classes do not always provide the time or tailored support that enable us to fully understand how to execute movements in the most functional and effective way. It is easy as a Beginner to feel lost or unsure of what exactly you are meant to be doing. We are passionate about investing in adult dancers in the same way schools do for children or pre-professionals; and we know this approach takes time, patience and support. Throughout this course, we will provide you with structured and detailed lessons by breaking down the essentials of ballet barre and key centre steps. We will also explore practices to develop safe movement patterns and introduce you to key conditioning exercises. This is a chance for keen adult ballet dancers to learn to engage the right muscles and work towards clean and controlled centre combinations and choreography. The class is a safe space to ask questions and receive feedback and corrections. Our goal is to nurture and support dancers in developing a holistic and sustainable ballet practice. We aim to instil a deep understanding of ballet and your body; helping you to progress quickly and minimise the risk of injury or overuse. In addition to developing a strong technical foundation; these classes aim to help students learn more about this beautiful art form; how dance can be used in storytelling and how we can convey our emotions and narratives through our bodies. We have a clear focus on individual style, artistry, musicality and performance quality and practice these through short routines and combinations. Ballet is something we can enjoy at any age and dancing is something that is natural to each and every one of us; within the right environment, we can all excel at it. It is healing, rejuvenating and invigorating, so come along and give it a go :) When and where: This course is taught over 8 weeks and runs from Wednesday 06th April - Wednesday 25th May. 3. Intermediate Ballet: Join our 8 week Technique course in Central London (Wed 6 Apr - 25 May).
Regular dance classes do not always provide the time or tailored support that enable us to fully understand and execute some of the harder and more intricate aspects of ballet and so it is natural to feel unsure of how to refine our technique or progress to the next level. For each class within this course, we will select a focal area and some key associated movements; be it turns, jumps, adage, turnout or flexibility. We will delve into the details and slowly breakdown and practice some of ballet's more challenging steps and learn how to execute them correctly.  We will work towards faster and cleaner transfers of weight, better balance, coordination, stamina and functional alignment. The centre exercises provide the opportunity to piece together these new movements into longer and more complex combinations; embedding them into our muscle memory and enhancing our ballet knowledge and terminology. Pre-pointe and pointe exercises are also incorporated into the final section of class each week. The class is designed to challenge you, whilst also providing a safe space to ask questions and receive feedback and corrections. Our goal is to support dancers in executing Intermediate and Advanced level choreography and with technical skill, artistry and ease! This will be a great class for you if: *- You feel you are generally able to keep up with the choreography and combinations in Intermediate classes, but lack finesse and don't feel poised or graceful in your movements You are able to dance well but your execution is inconsistent and you can't pinpoint why You have some areas that you just can't master (e.g. specific turns, battery or big jumps) and need some extra help!* Class Structure: 6.30-7.15pm: Arrive and warm up with an Intermediate level ballet barre. 7.15 - 7.45pm: Complete centre work including port de bras, adage, centre practice, petit and grande allegro. We use our time in the centre to breakdown and practice our focal steps in isolation and then in combinations and choreography. 7.45 - 8pm: Pointe work (pointe shoes are optional - all exercises can also be done in regular ballet shoes and are great for strengthening feet and ankles). [Please note: This course complements our Sunday variation classes because the selected focal steps for each class are inspired by the repertoire we are learning on Sundays. Where the level is appropriate, the pointe work will also focus on some of the key steps in the repertoire. This class is a great way to get some extra practice in - specifically tailored to the variation] Who can attend? Students attending our Intermediate Sunday classes who want an extra opportunity to practice some of the challenging steps that show up in the variations and repertoire Intermediate and Advanced dancers who would like to progress their technique and/or prepare for or improve their pointe work Improver level students and those wanting to transition from Beginners classes to Intermediate level classes You must be over 18 to participate in this workshop [Complete beginners are advised to check out our Beginner Ballet courses instead as the pace of this class will not be suitable for you].
