What happens in this class?

Blue Palette Art Studio, is an exclusive after school art club, created by Dr. Sai Banerjee to encourage creativity, curiosity and mindfulness in children through art.

At Blue Palette, we teach traditional art skills such as observational drawing and painting using a step-by-step approach, to ensure that the children develop a strong foundation in art. At the same time, we also encourage experimental drawing & painting using more unconventional methods such as monoprinting, mixed media and collage to make the process more fun and enjoyable.

FAQs
What can we expect in your weekly art lessons?
Our weekly lessons are based on the main theme for this year, which is ‘Great Masters’. Each week we start a new project. We discuss the artist and the techniques followed by a quick demonstration. The children are then encouraged to interpret the brief in their own way and start creating. Some projects may take longer and extend for 2-3 weeks, depending on the scope of the project.
What age group are the classes suitable for?
Our classes are suitable for Ages 6-16. The lesson plans are adapted according to age and skill level.
What are your class timings?
Monday to Tuesday (4.00 pm to 5.30 pm)
What are your class sizes?
Our class sizes are usually between 10-12 students. Our maximum limit is 15 students per session, to ensure everyone gets individual attention.
Can you sign up to just one term in an academic year?
Yes. Although our lessons are planned for an entire academic year based on the theme, you may choose to sign up for just one term, as we will be working on several individual projects.
Do we have to bring anything?
All materials will be provided. All you need to bring is your imagination!
Are your classes Covid secure?
Yes. We take all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students. We sanitise all the tables and chairs before and after the lesson. Once the children arrive we get them to wash their hands before starting the lesson.
Where is your class located?
Our classes are held at 1st Kingston Hill Scout Hut, 293 Park Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 5LY. It is a lovely large space with plenty of light and ventilation. We also run sessions at Lantern Arts Centre, Tolverne Road, Raynes Park SW20 8RA
How do we get there?
By public transport Train – Southwest trains to Norbiton, which is the nearest train station. Buses - The Scout Hut is in North Kingston, easily accessed by the 371 bus, which stops right outside the venue (Latchmere Road stop). By car - Temporary parking is available in font of the Scout Hut for drop off and pick up.
Do you teach private lessons?
Yes. We do occasionally teach private lessons for small groups or portfolio work.
Are parents allowed to stay during the class?
Unfortunately no. These classes are designed for children to work independently. We have never had any issues with children settling in. They have lots of fun with their peers and time flies while creating.
Should we bring snacks to the lesson?
You can if you want to. We usually provide snacks and a drink upon arrival. If you prefer to bring your own snacks please ensure that it is nut-free.
What should we wear?
Most of our students come straight from school so they are still in their uniform. You can wear any comfortable clothes. If we do have a ‘messy’ project planned we will provide protective aprons.
If my child misses a lesson how do they catchup?
If your child is unable to attend a session because of illness, school trips or other circumstances we usually offer a catchup lesson during the same week on another day. You will have to notify us via email to make arrangements. Unfortunately we are unable to provide refunds or carry over the missed lessons to the following weeks.
