What you will do
2 hour workshop
Do you want to learn which foods to match with which wines to get the best flavour combination? Then join us in The City of London for our Introduction to Wine - Food and Wine matching evening.
The night will be a relaxed, informal occasion, with the opportunity to explore classic flavour combinations and more, as well as discussing the guiding principles behind successfully matching food with wine.
We'll also talk about the grape varieties and about the building blocks of wine; acidity, alcohol, tannin and sweetness and the affect these have on food. We will explain some of the factors that combine to make the wines taste the way they do, and you'll pick up plenty of tips that you can put to good use at your next dinner party!
The night will include a delicious selection of food and wine, for example:
Champagne and smoked salmon Australian Chardonnay and pâté Rioja with roast ham Californian Zinfandel and fruit dessert South African Cabernet Sauvignon and cheddar Royal Tokaji Last Harvest and blue cheese
Please note this night is not suitable for vegetarians and sadly we cannot offer alternatives.
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
About your host, East London Wine School
East London Wine School was established in 2009, and has the widest range of wine, beers and spirits courses in the City and East London.
We talk to people and teach about wine by concentrating on the flavours and aromas of the wines. We focus on the taste profile of each wine explaining the characteristics of the grape variety, the climate, and the winemaking, and show you with maps and images where they came from and how they are made. We explain why they taste like they do. We ask and listen to what you think about the wines.
Our events are, above all, fun & entertaining with a relaxed atmosphere - no previous tasting experience is required. The best & most enjoyable way to learn is comparing the tastes of differences side-by-side.
We also always focus on food & wine matches, and explain what type of foods would go with the chosen wines, and more importantly - why!
As we do not sell wine - we can show you where to buy the best buys are locally and at the best prices. We work closely with local independent merchants to bring you the best tasting & most interesting they have to offer.
Our guests come by themselves, in couples, and in larger groups, everybody is welcome. It is also a great way to meet people with the same interest in tasting & learning about wine.
East London Wine School is also an Approved Programme Provider for the delivery of professional WSET Courses. These courses are for professionals but keen amateurs too.....it's how most of us at the school started in the world of wine.
Whilst all our tutors are WSET-qualified and have extensive experience of wine, they more importantly have an infectious enthusiasm for their subject and are able to communicate this to their audience without the use of confusing (& boring!) technical facts.
