You may know Ed Cooper Clark from Downton Abbey or Spooks, but what you probably don’t know is that he is also a dab hand at the Boston Shake! Ed will tell us all about Ernest Hemingway and his love of cocktails. He will also read some of his favourite Hemingway passages to us, while we sip three of the great writer’s best loved cocktails.

Afterwards you will have the chance to make your own Hemingway Daiquiri.

Did you know?

From his experiences in World War I and Lost Generation Paris to safaris in Africa and fishing the Gulf Stream, from covering the Spanish Civil War and World War II to chasing German U-boats off the Cuban coast, Hemingway’s life was one full of adventure. “Don’t bother with churches, government buildings or city squares,” he once said. “If you want to know about a culture, spend a night in its bars.”

About your host, Berry Bros. & Rudd

Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchant having first opened its doors in 1698.

Being a supplier to the Royal family since the reign of George III the company has held two Royal warrants from the reign of Edward VII. Still in its original shop at No. 3 St James’s Street London, the shop has altered little since those times providing an atmospheric experience for customers and curious visitors alike.

With over three centuries of accumulated knowledge, the close relationships developed with the world’s finest spirit and wine producers and seven Masters of Wine working for the company, Berry Bros. & Rudd provides the ultimate fine wine and spirits experience.

Whilst embracing its heritage Berry Bros. & Rudd is constantly looking to innovate; being the first wine merchant to create a website in 1994, and temperature controlled wine cellars in the 1960s. Today’s modern state of the art warehouses contain more than 8.5 million bottles of wine.

With the establishment of the warehouses in Hampshire and in the continuing spirit of innovation Berry Bros. & Rudd has made use of the original cellars underneath No.3 St James’s Street. Recently refurbished to a high standard, Berry Bros. & Rudd now runs friendly, fun and informative courses in these historic spaces. Leveraging off all the acquired expertise of the Masters of Wine and numerous other connoisseurs there is no better place to learn about wine and spirits than in the extraordinary Pickering Cellar.
