4 hour workshop
We will start the day learning a basic foundation of woodworking skills and the correct use and maintenance of hand tools. After some fortifying tea and cake, we will each select wood to make our custom set of chopsticks with a contrasting wood inlay complete with stand. The day's focus will be on learning basic skills to be able to progress to future woodworking projects safely, with greater precision and understanding. By the end of the class, you will go home with your own set of chopsticks, ideal for a gift or for making your friends jealous on a takeaway night! The course will be run in Surrey Quays, south-east London. We will be running the class from the workshop of Dovedale Design studio, and so will also provide a 'behind the scenes' glimpse of life in an active woodworking space.

About your host, Dovedale Design Studio
Dovedale design studio is a London based luxury design company specialising in the small-scale limited edition production of handmade wooden items. The ethos of the company was a return to local, handmade products, designed and made in London using materials sourced from the UK in collaboration with other local craftsmen. They design and make all their products in their Surrey Quays workshop, and are opening their doors to begin teaching short courses in woodworking. The course on offer will be an introduction to basic woodworking and joinery, culminating in the students making their own jewellery ring/earring box to take home. An ideal gift for a loved one or to yourself, the beautifully crafted box gives an opportunity to learn some beginner woodworking techniques and spend an enjoyable couple of days with an insight into life in a wood workshop.
We will be providing everything that is needed. You should wear old clothes suitable for a workshop, as well as strong comfy footwear as you will spend much of the time on your feet. We will provide tea, coffee, and cake, but we advise you to bring your own dinner as there are no open cafes in the area. We can provide all the tools and materials you will need, although you are welcome to bring your own tools if you like. The course is run at a relaxed pace, although you will be on your feet all evening, so be aware this can be surprisingly tiring if you are not used to it.
