Dovedale design studio is a London based luxury design company specialising in the small-scale limited edition production of handmade wooden items. The ethos of the company was a return to local, handmade products, designed and made in London using materials sourced from the UK in collaboration with other local craftsmen. They design and make all their products in their Surrey Quays workshop, and are opening their doors to begin teaching short courses in woodworking. The course on offer will be an introduction to basic woodworking and joinery, culminating in the students making their own jewellery ring/earring box to take home. An ideal gift for a loved one or to yourself, the beautifully crafted box gives an opportunity to learn some beginner woodworking techniques and spend an enjoyable couple of days with an insight into life in a wood workshop.

The evening was lots of fun and very instructive. I took home some beautiful chopsticks and a stand which I'd made. I would also now feel confident in using the tools and methods learnt. Would love to do more classes at Dovedale Design Studio.

Awesome experience. The guys at Dovedale bring such passion and creativity to what they do, and it's totally infectious. It's pretty rare in these days of 3D printers and mass production to find a young company that is so committed to a physical craft, to making beautiful things by hand. Getting a little insight into their world in the studio was the perfect antidote to working in the office and pushing numbers around on a screen. They create a really relaxed environment, and you come away having learned a lot and created something with your own two hands, something that connects you in a small way to a level of craftsmanship that is now far too rare and underappreciated. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Absolutely brilliant course at Dovedale studios last night. This was my first ever Obby booking, and I really enjoyed it. Ollie and Charl were both friendly and interesting. Charl did the teaching, and he was patient, helpful and informative. I now know a lot more than I did before about types of wood, measuring properly, cutting, planing, insetting; and after this opportunity to learn and practise these, I feel confident to do a more advanced course next.

This was one of the best workshops we've been to and a really lovely evening. Our tutor was welcoming, encouraging and knowledgeable. We've left with good pair of chopsticks each and an interest in learning more about woodwork. We'll definitely be recommending this to our friends.

I had a great time with Ollie and Charl. Both of them are welcoming and friendly and made the lesson very enjoyable. They know a lot about woodwork and are happy to share their experiences with us. I would really recommend the lesson to anyone who would like to get some hands-on experience with wood and craft their own unique product.

This is the best woodworking class that Tom and I have been to. It's also the only jewellery box making class on Obby, and we found it much more interesting than spatula or spoon carving. The pace was relaxed and Ollie is an excellent instructor. He explained the why of every action before we did it, so you didn't feel like you were merely robotically following instructions, you were really involved in the process throughout. Thoroughly recommend.
