What you will do
5 hour class
Take a day to explore and engage with nature in a new and creative way.
Open to adults of all ages. The day runs from 10 am – 3pm.
The session is led by Stephen Stockbridge, sculptor, maker and Forest School teacher. Together with Stephen you will explore the difference between fresh cut willow and soaked dry willow and the art of weaving it to create large sculptural forms.
Situated under a parachute canopy, this making space is in an ancient woodland that is part of an 89-acre community farm. At the centre of the space is an open fire to make tea; keeping you warm during the winter months and adding to the atmosphere. In this space, you can learn, play and make, at a gentle and respectful pace.
By immersing yourselves in nature, you support a deeper sense of wellbeing.
What you do varies according to the desire of the group, whether we create large willow animals or giant organic forms. A relaxed open attitude is required, along with good waterproof boots and weather appropriate clothing. Please bring a packed lunch and flask. There are toilet facilities on site.
The whole experience is based within The Woodlands Farm Trust, set in an 89-acre community farm on the edge of London, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The session goes ahead, whatever the weather. We meet in the carpark at Woodlands Farm at 9.45am. See you there!
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
About your host, Creative nature HQ
Creative nature HQ is a collective of artists, makers and designers who believe that we are all inherently creative. It is their job as teachers to nurture and reveal these qualities in every one we teach. Creative nature HQ have defined five disciplines that encompass all the skills of our group: to draw, carve, build, weave and cast.
You can access these workshops in different studios around south London. Their main location is Creative Nature HQ , East Greenwich, that specialises in wood carving, weaving and construction on a monumental scale. We love to teach, to give people the confidence to use tools and with that a confidence grows and a world of making opens up before them.
Stephen Stockbridge is the director of Creative nature HQ, from this tranquil making space Stephen shares his passion for making with natural materials. Slowing down, being in the moment and fully engaged with what you are doing is the foundation of everything that happens here.
Come join the club, learn, live and make! Looking forward to meeting you.
