What you will do
Two session course
On Day One Alice will spend time explaining how to prepare your surfaces to ensure the best outcome. She will then teach you step by step how to create effects on a large sample board (which is yours to keep). On Day Two you will pick a paint effect to put in to action using either a small wooden box or plinth provided (as you choose) or you are welcome to bring an object on which to work. A recent participant said ‘Alice was an amazing teacher who organised a really time for us all. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone interested in learning paint effects and would love to do it again myself!"
"Alice’s course on decorative Paint Effects was a delight. She is one of the leading professionals working in this field in England, as well as an accomplished trompe l’oeil painter, and our course covered the principles of faux marbling and wood effects.
Her outside studio at her home became our classroom, and Alice provided all materials, brushes, paints etc, as well as a ready stream of prepared and undercoated mdf practice boards. Her explanations of the steps to produce various different (and very convincing) marble effects were clear and precise, and her creative knowledge of colour, types of paint, drying times and problem-solving were readily shared with us. More difficult in a way was reproducing different types of wood grain on our practice boards, but with her good-humoured patience and practical demonstrations, our small class was soon enthusiastically producing reasonable work of which we could be proud.
It was a thoroughly informative and useful course, and I doubt there are many others like it in the UK: floristry, cooking, photography etc - everywhere, but Paint Effects?
Just as importantly I really enjoyed it. I also kept my practice boards, and they have become rather treasured table mats!" - Christopher Lloyd Owen

About your host, Minerva Workshop
The Minerva Workshop is located in Kentish Town in North London, in an old Victorian Warehouse full of creative businesses, and run by painter Lottie Cole.
The Minerva Workshop hosts masterclasses taught by artists and artisans as well as regular weekly classes. All the classes are taught by professional full-time artists and artisans, who love to share their knowledge and skill.
The classes are open to all levels, unless stated, and kept to a limited number of no more than 12. This keeps the classes intimate and allows for everyone to have sufficient help and encouragement in a friendly atmosphere.
As well as learning and expanding skills our goal is to send participants away refreshed and invigorated by sharing a creative experience.
Please wear suitable clothing and bring an apron. You will need to take your sample board home with you. If you would like to bring your own object for Day Two please do get in touch first so that Alice can advise whether or not it's suitable.
