Build a terrarium with Botanical Boys in a fun, engaging and relaxed workshop.  

This class provides a slightly smaller jar than our Masterclass workshop option.  It’s a 20cmH x 14cmW glass jar with cork lid. 

Once built, your garden will require very minimal maintenance and we will teach you all the necessary steps on how to build your garden layer by layer and how to care for it afterwards with our ongoing care service and support for anyone needing some planty advice.

I killed my last terranium so decided to give this class a go. It was wonderful. Darryl & Ben have an amazing space with so much inspiration & SO many options to play with (including cute little figures to help add some personality). My creation is awesome, I learnt a lot (including sand layering techniques and plant care) and I had so much fun.

Cannot recommend enough! The class was such a wonderful experience. Darren was an amazing teacher, the location is beautiful and the atmosphere is both fun and peaceful, there are so many inspiring ingredients available to craft your terrarium with, and you get something special to take home and treasure at the end :) I loved it!

When my friends and I signed up for this I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, I had never booked anything through Obby before but I was excited to give it a go. We had an incredible time with the Botanical Boys, Darren and Ben, and cannot recommend their class enough. Being welcomed into their lovely home full of terrarium inspiration, my friends and I had a great time and definitely intend to take another class. Darren was a great instructor who is obviously very knowledgable and incredibly patient while Ben did a great job of making us feel welcome and topping up our prosecco while taking lovely photos of the whole evening. I am really looking forward to my next class!

Really great workshop run by Botanical Boys in their amazing flat in Dalston which is full of terrariums and other lovely decorative pieces! This is great idea for a gift to someone as it's an experience that can be shared and you get to take something home. I will definitely do one of their other classes!

The class was excellent. The guys who run it are really nice, funny, and know their stuff. Everyone in the class made a great Terrarium and we were allowed to take them home - plus there was prosecco!
The only comment I would have for the botanical boys is that they kept showing us weird things they had been given that we could put in our Terrarium, like toy dinosaurs and cocktail flare sticks - maybe reel this in a bit and just let people enjoy the natural aspect of it a bit more. This is a small qualm though, because the class was incredible and I would highly recommend it.

What a lovely class. The Botanical Boys are living out their dream, caring for plants, creating beautiful terrariums and spreading the love. The location was stunning: a tower full to the brim with green life. I'm really pleased with my terrarium. There was tons of choice when it came to things like stones, gravel and decoration, and the plants themselves were healthy and pretty. The green tea on arrival and the Prosecco was a nice touch. 

I left feeling utterly soothed and pleased with myself by the time I left with my terrarium, and it's doing really well at home. There's plenty of aftercare info available from The Botanical Boys so I'm not worried if anything goes wrong with it; I'll be able to put it right.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the workshop to anybody, whether they're green fingered or not.

Terrarium Class - Upgrade Vessels Available

My partner and I attended a Terrarium Class a few weeks ago after getting the experience for my partners birthday. We were made to wait for the experience due to COVID-19 but it was worth it. Straight from the start we were made to feel welcome and it was fascinating to learn about the history of terrariums, as well as how Botanical Boys got to where they are today. To date, our terrariums look amazing and we hope to get many months out of them. We also got some great tips for looking after plants too, and we’ve already started to see the benefits from some advice! An experience I would definitely recommend to anyone who has A green thumb, or wants to learn more about plants, and it would make a great gift for someone! We will definitely be back! :)

Fun bday gift activity for a friend. Nice planty/workshopy area n people. Was good to get a drink, terrarium history intro, info about terrariums eg the layers needed, care, biology etc. Liked that they "hid" dinosuars around the room that you can add to your terrarium. The plants included (fittonias) were nice but would have been better to have another variety included in the price instead of £5 upgrade choice ie as standard get maybe 2 fittonias in diff colours n a diff plant. Came home with a decent piece thats still alive.

Don’t let the covid restrictions put you off booking. Temperature checks and hand sanitiser was done, all tools are sterilised, alongside mask wearing during the experience. But once you get your hands stuck in you don’t notice that mask feeling.

Thank you Cameron for making yesterday a fun evening. I learnt a lot about the history of terrariums, their construction and care. For future ref it would be good to have an idea of the size of jar, even a picture for when people are booking the course. Also, it would be good to have other plants to choose from for an upgrade part from the fern which was beautiful but I think I would've preferred a Ginseng tree. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the session and wondered if you did a more advanced course.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class - Michael was engaging and made the class both informative and fun.
I haven't given the class 5 stars as I felt that value for money was slightly off balance.  I upgraded to the smaller egg vessel for an extra £30 and seemed to use less materials  as the base is so much smaller than the standard class jar size - but then still charged an extra £5 for an asparagus fern to put in istead.  But otherwise a good class.  Thak you.

The planters change from time to time depending on stock availability.  But they are lovely and cute once planted and easy to take home.  Each planter varies slightly in size and style to the one on the image.

I absolutely loved this class! It was a lot of fun and really therapeutic, and my terrarium came out absolutely awesome! The guys are very knowledgeable and the space they use for the workshop is gorgeous, it looks like a greenhouse! I'll definitely do one of their other classes :)

It’s not every class that lets you create your very own world! I loved every second of this class.  Darren and Ben were very welcoming and told us just enough about the history of terrariums and gave lots of inspiration on how to create our own.  My jar is thriving and I’ve been telling everyone how much I loved this.

I gave this to someone as a Christmas present and had a great time making two lovely Terrariums. It was very informational but also relaxing and we were very well received by the Botanical Boys, I would definitely recommend this.

I can't recommend this class enough. I'm a big obby fan and I have been to some great classes, but this has by far been my favourite experience. 

My sister and I were lucky enough to be the only ones in our session, and Darren and Ben made us feel so welcome in their studio. Darren's excellent reaching gave us the perfect amount of knowledge to confidently  build a really unique terrarium each. There was a huge variety of materials for us to work with and we were told all about the fascinating history of the art of terrarium making. The prosecco was also a wonderful touch!

The Eco-system jar we came away with was absolutely beautiful, I've already received so many compliments on it.  Will definitely be creating some more!

Handcraft a self-sustaining low maintenance living Terrarium Garden

Terrarium Masterclass 

Originating from Japan, Kokedama (meaning 'moss ball') is the art of wrapping the roots of a plant in soil and moss. The result is a beautiful, sculptural object that can be suspended or placed in a shallow dish. These make beautiful gifts or to decorate your home with.

In this Workshop, you'll create 2 Kokedama and learn the origins of the art, soil mixing and after care, all while enjoying a glass of  Prosseco  

Includes 2 plants, soil, moss and all other equipment plus a glass of Prosseco 



Ben and Daz of The Botanical Boys began their journey in 2009 when they took over a terraced garden in London Fields with a Japanese & formal English segments.  Having no gardening experience prior, they really got stuck in and become members of the National Garden Scheme and opened up the space to the public for charity every year. They were selected for a spot on the BBC Great British Garden Revival program in May 2015 and were featured in a number of books and publications.

After a few assignments and holiday trips to South Africa and California it was succulents and their ability to be used in many structural forms, as with their sculpted Japanese and formal topiary English garden that led to a passion for creating designs on a smaller scale using air plants, cacti, succulents and a range of mosses creating beautiful terrariums. 

Their love for plants and terrariums is infectious and people who join them on their workshops not only make a beautiful terrarium, but are taught about all the natural elements involved as well as provided  aftercare instruction.
