What happens in this class?

Go from being a sewing novice to making your first outfit! In this course, we’ll learn the building blocks of clothes making while stitching up a sweatshirt and trouser set, suitable for all gender expressions.

We’ll begin by making a loose fitted pair of trousers or shorts using woven fabrics. You can choose to make comfy pyjamas for lounging around in, or a pair of smarter trousers to wear outside.

We’ll then move on to making the sweatshirt using stretch material. You can opt to make a raglan sleeve sweatshirt, a t-shirt or a hoodie.

I did the 6 week "Learn to Sew: Casual Basics" course and it was such a joy! The instructors, Varian and Amelia, were encouraging and friendly. The overall class environment was very relaxed and welcoming. I'm genuinely sad the course is over. I finished the course with a new hobby and a pair of trousers and a t-shirt that I'm very proud of. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking to pick up a new skill. I had 0 sewing experience previously and I now feel confident about starting projects on my own.

Casual Basics is a great course if you want to walk home with something you would actually like to wear! As a complete beginner who didn't even know how to use a sewing machine initially, I'd say it was quite challenging - but in a good way, I had so much fun and was looking forward to it every week! I stretched myself, learned a lot, and am very pleased with the result. Varian and Emilia are the most lovely and patient teachers you could wish for. I'm definitely coming back for more!

I absolutely adored my time in the Learn to Sew: Casual Basics course! Jaime's guidance was exceptional, and within just 6 weeks, I was able to craft trousers and a sweatshirt. The small class size made learning a breeze – plenty of opportunities for assistance and questions. Highly recommend this course! Already looking forward to diving into another one with Make Mee to further hone my newfound skills.

Wonderful sewing class in South London. As a complete beginner, the class truly helped me gain the confidence I need to sew at home. I eagerly anticipate every Wednesday evening session and greatly appreciate the small class arrangement, which allows for sharing lovely moments with both the teacher and classmates.
Sarah-Joy Lewis - 22 February 2024
Absolutely fantastic course. The teachers were so great at explaining everything and I feel much more confident sewing now. Plus I have a new favourite sweatshirt!

This is a great course! I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time. The instructors are lovely, helpful and understanding of everyone’s abilities. They share lots of tips and the clothing you make has options so you can have different pockets and styles. Couldn’t recommend this enough. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more courses!
Gaia Bini - 14 February 2024
A lovely and supporting environment for complete beginners as well as those with some experience. I've already asked for a sewing machine for my birthday ;)
Elly Fenlon - 14 February 2024
I really enjoyed this course and learnt loads. Our teacher Amelia was amazing, and was accommodating of all our different needs (from complete beginners to more advanced beginners). I enjoyed learning how to personalise my trousers through choice of pockets, shortening them, taking them in at the sides, and using the overlocker, and I really appreciated all the help adjusting them. It's worth knowing that the studio has spare fabric to buy if you can't bring your own, and the team are really flexible about making time up if you can't attend every session. So I wouldn't let either of those put you off going.
Valeria Toscana - 11 October 2023
Absolutely fantastic! In a short span of time I managed to have a new pair of trousers, a sweatshirt, and a lot more confidence about sewing that I completely lacked. I'll definitely be coming back for either another course or the sewing social! Would definitely recommend to anyone

Loved every minute of the Casual Basics class and am as proud as punch of my hoodie and trousers! The 6 weeks flew in and every session was so fun and informative. Amelia was a fabulous, welcoming and patient teacher and guided us all through many minor mishaps along the way - all part of the joy of learning! I’d absolutely recommend this to anyone wanting to get a grasp on the basics of garment construction and using a sewing machine! The studio is so cute too!
Vladislava Afenlieva - 25 May 2023
I have done a couple of the beginner courses organised by Make Mee Studio and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You learn the basics of sewing at your own pace, but with the support and encouragement of experienced instructors who are available to guide you, and answer any questions. The best advantage is the fact that you end up with a completed project, which as a beginner does miracles for your sewing confidence. Looking forward to taking up more classes in the future!
Vicky Adnitt - 23 May 2023
Fantastic course. As a total beginner I felt the course went at the right pace and be the end of week 4 I was confident enough to have a go at my own creations at home. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend it.
James Banks - 23 May 2023

The tutor is lovely and very helpful. I came a cross a few problems during my projects (entirely not her fault). She quickly came to my aid and helped me fix them
Jana Haragalova - 4 August 2021
thoroughly enjoyed the classes
Susie Harris - 31 July 2021
An absolutely thrilling experience! Proof that it really is never too late to learn new skills. I made two professional looking items one slinky blouse and a pair of loose fitting summery/ floral pants. Jaime was so kind warm and friendly and showed infinite patience and made the whole experience so positive. The group was small (4-5) and Covid friendly with mask & social distancing. Everyone was kind and helpful. A really terrific course very well resourced. I thoroughly enjoyed it & recommend this sewing programme especially if you are a complete beginner.
Rose - 4 March 2020
Tracey our teacher was really informative and I learnt a lot. It was fun too with like minded people keen to learn. The class sizes here are never more than 6 (4 in our class) which means that you get all the attention that you need. Which is great whether you’re a beginner, improver or experienced. She makes sure that the task meets your experience and challenges you a little! Highly recommended.

I learned to make a pair of lounging-about trousers which I now wear all the time at home, and a Raglan-sleeved, stretch-fabric sweater which I've worn every day to work, since. I have shown it off to work-mates and they have been astounded and amazed at my "talent" although I have been at pains to point out that my teacher (Jaime) was the reason it worked at all: informative, friendly, supportive, ever-ready to step in to avert (my own self-made) disasters, all the good things. The venue was very cool too. I aim to return and do workshops. I cannot praise Jaime and Tracey highly enough. Do it. It's extremely rewarding, good fun, and you share your time with some seriously wonderful fellow-travellers!
