What you will do

3 hour workshop

Daytime

We are running our workshops in November with a Christmas theme! You will be able to make tree ornaments and a free standing candle curve. Learn how to cut and create your design using a variety of stained glass accessories. You will use coloured glass frit, stringers, confetti, beads and off cuts to create beautiful glass art for your home.

All materials and equipment are provided and full guidance is given in this workshop which lasts up to 3 hours.

You will learn:

  • How to use the equipment provided to cut your glass.
  • About different glass decorating methods.
  • About the glass fusing process.
  • About workshop health and safety.
  • How to make an additional small piece with your practice glass, either a key ring, fridge magnet or mini ring dish.

Your work will be kiln fired after the workshop and will be ready for collection up to 10 days later. Pieces can be posted for a small charge.

The process of creating a glass coaster and dish using fused glass to decorate was carefully explained and demonstrated with the aid of finished examples. We learnt about appropriate health and safety issues, how to cut and glue glass and how to develop a design using a range of prepared coloured glass pre-cut in different shapes and textures, including some ground into quite a fine powder. The fusing process involving the kiln was explained and we then completed the design and making of 2 coasters and a dish which the teacher took away to be fused - the finished products to be collected at a later date. The teacher was extremely informative, helpful and friendly and everyone was put at their ease. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the workshop which I think could be described as a mindful experience. The venue was easily accessible and comfortable with all the necessary resources and equipment on hand. The studio workshop was well set up with appropriate attention given to health and safety.

Glass Fusing by Craft My Day LTD - crafts in London

About your host, Craft My Day LTD

Rachel - Owner and Founder of 'Craft My Day'

Since completing her degree in ‘Costume and Technical effects for the performing arts’ at London College of Fashion in 2001, Rachel worked freelance in the film and events industries for many years before taking a break to be at home with her three children whilst they were small.

She began teaching at a private sewing studio, alongside freelance work and grew to love the rewarding nature of teaching.

'I can never seem to get enough of learning new skills, which I love to share…'

In 2016 Rachel decided to start up her own Craft studio and began to work with other local artists to create a unique space for people to come and learn a variety of crafts in a fun and relaxed setting. Her passion for textiles and design began during school when she found her own teacher a real inspiration. 'She developed my creativity but also gave me confidence for life. I aspire to recreate that experience, and inspire others to start their own creative journeys.' Rachel qualified as Powertex trainer in 2016 and is also really excited to share this fantastic product.

Rachel believes that all people are creative and with a bit of patience and encouragement can be taught ways to express that innate ability and get a real sense of satisfaction and enjoyment.
