Rachel - Owner and Founder of 'Craft My Day' Since completing her degree in ‘Costume and Technical effects for the performing arts’ at London College of Fashion in 2001, Rachel worked freelance in the film and events industries for many years before taking a break to be at home with her three children whilst they were small.

She began teaching at a private sewing studio, alongside freelance work and grew to love the rewarding nature of teaching.

'I can never seem to get enough of learning new skills, which I love to share…'

In 2016 Rachel decided to start up her own Craft studio and began to work with other local artists to create a unique space for people to come and learn a variety of crafts in a fun and relaxed setting. Her passion for textiles and design began during school when she found her own teacher a real inspiration. 'She developed my creativity but also gave me confidence for life. I aspire to recreate that experience, and inspire others to start their own creative journeys.' Rachel qualified as Powertex trainer in 2016 and is also really excited to share this fantastic product.

Rachel believes that all people are creative and with a bit of patience and encouragement can be taught ways to express that innate ability and get a real sense of satisfaction and enjoyment.

This was such a great workshop. So many materials provided for use and a great way to unwind from the stresses of the week by using a medium that I had never used before which was very tactile and easy under the expert tuition of our tutor. Really great value for money and nothing is too much trouble for the host at this venue. I can highly recommend and will definitely be back thank you

My girlfriend booked this for me as she wanted a unique House for the garden I didn’t really know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a great time getting mucky and creative and was pleased with my end result A Wizard tower rather than a fairy house! With an abundance of tea and biscuits it was a really good day

The fairy house workshop on Saturday was fantastic. I still find it hard to believe that we created our amazing houses in under 3 hours. We will be returning for more.

RAchel is amazing, I loved this class & can't wait to go back. Rachel is friendly, knowledgeable & inclusive as she gently steers beginners & the newly initiated to the ways of crochet. I spend a great afternoon with my daughter who is usually way too cool to hang around me or try something new, but just quietly I think miss16 loved it too. Jump out of your comfort zone & give it a try.

I really enjoyed the 2 workshops - Andrea was very good at explaining how to crochet, which was completely new to me. It definitely made sense to have 2, 2 hour sessions a week apart as it gave me time to practice in between so that I was ready to go back and learn new stitches at the second session. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, at any level.

It was a nice small class so perfect for making sure you get that one to one with the tutor. I left feeling confident to go home and make my own lined curtains as a result and I was extremely pleased with the sample one we made on the day. Definitely worth it!

Rachel was such a great teacher, she went through every detail step by step. so it never felt overwhelming. By the end of the session I was surprised at how confident I felt with a sewing machine and my sewing skills were surprisingly not too bad. I highly recommend this course and will be signing up for more lessons at Craft My Day. 5 stars!

An overall very enjoyable experience. The time seemed to wiz by. Learnt about threading a sewing machine, practised all the differenct stitches, sewing in straight lines and how to easily sew a perfect curve. Ended the class making a handy tote bag. Can’t wait to book another class.

If you are looking for a course where you learn by doing, this will be perfect. Rachel explains step by step everything as you go along, taking time to make sure everyone follows. The course is well designed where after 4 weeks (12hrs) you end up with a tote bag, skirt and lots of practical knowledge. Highly recommend this course to anyone!

Rachel was extremely patient and helpful! Definitely an experience worth trying out as while I may not be the best sewing maestro, the vibe of the class, chat and perfectly imperfect skirt made it all worth it. Highly recommend this.

We had such a lovely morning and learned a great deal about paint effects. Vicky and Rachel were very welcoming and knowledgeable and we had the opportunity to practice lots of techniques which we will be able use on our own projects. Katharine has already bought the paint for her project! This is a great workshop to get you started on chalk painting. Laura ( and also on behalf of Katharine)

Such a fun thing to do with friends! We were explained how to use the block prints and given ideas on various designs and colour combinations. Then it was up to us to design out own Tea Towel! Loved it! Our teacher was great, very friendly and relaxed and very informative.

I had a great afternoon. Two other ladies had cancelled, so it was just me with Rachel - I had her full attention!! The two of us just sat there playing :-) Rachel seems to know a lot about many many crafts, so we sat there chatting and I was able to pick her brains about other projects as well. I was pleased that I was able to come away with a fully finished (bar drying completely, that is) project. I have been on other courses where it is almost impossible to finish what you are doing - as a result it sits in your cupboard waiting for you to finish it!! Definitely recommend - Rachel is great and very knowledgeable.

Having tried to make a necklace before and failed I found this class was essential for getting over all the mistakes I had made. I now, after making a beaded bracelet, have worked out what all the tweaks are necessary to make some beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The instructor was very friendly and with cups of coffee and biscuits , all my problems have been answered. I now have been so enthused to order, from Amazon , some more items to add to my kit.

This class is really amazing for learning the basics to beading. At first I thought the time frame wouldn’t be enough to learn everything but it’s a very detailed class and goes into great depth. The course leader is great and helping you methodically and understand the different ways of doing things. She’s also very flexible - would definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn the basics and elaborate from there.

How to mosaic. The teacher was well informed & there were lots of good resources. It might have helped to have an advance email about what we were doing so I could prepare a design - we completed a lot but time was tight. The venue was nice but could have been more spacious

The PJ ( bottoms only) workshop review. Very nice studio with lots of light. Good Janome machine with a variety of stitches. Pleasant teacher. Workshop was extremely basic. I felt that it should have been advertised as a very basic beginners class. For three hours I had expected a more detailed pattern with at least a separate waistband. I finished one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the end of the class. I would have finished earlier if an overlocker had been made available. Used a stich (similar to an overlocker) which gave a good finish on the sewing machine but this was not as quick to use. However I was the only attendee and have been sewing for 18 months. A good class if you have none or little experience of sewing. A cloth copy of the two piece pattern used to make the Pajama bottoms was given to me as I asked but I was told that normally this doesn’t happen.

I absolutely loved this class. The instructor was so informative and patient. I also learned some great tips on how to use my personal sewing machine better which was an extra bonus. My husband was incredibly proud of my final product! I will certainly book more classes.

The Powertex Taster Workshop is the third craft class I have attended with Craft my Day (Mosaic workshop and Making a Cushion Cover being the others) and another five star success. Powertex is a fabric hardener and is used to create effects to decorate surfaces (in this first instance a bland picture frame) that with embellishments, painting and glazing techniques turn them into veritable works of art. Everything provided, including superb (and friendly) tuition and all materials. A very happy couple of hours spent doing this. Can't wait for the Autumn so that I can book some more.
