In this direct casting method, molten metal directly fills a design carved/imprinted into the surface of a cuttlebone. Producing a finished three-dimensional cast object - in this case a signet ring. This technique is one of the earliest known casting processes used by man for thousands of years.

Things to remember

Each student will be provided with an apron, though we ask you to please wear suitable non- loose clothing (as you would for any other semi-messy art form). For health and safety we also recommend close toed shoes.

Can I make a solid gold signet ring?

Yes, the most cost effective way to cast your ring in solid gold is to create it in silver and then on the day of the class we would weigh your silver ring and quote you for it in solid gold by creating a mould and lost wax casting it. We have done some 9ct signets recently and were coming out around £300

This was such an amazing experience! It’s a small group, so you get full attention and support from the whole team. They are all extremely knowledgeable and fun, ready to help when it’s time to use more complicated tools but also extremely encouraging when it comes to let your imagination fly high :) I loved it so much I’m already planning to do the different workshops they offer.

What a great experience, the class was fun, we all learned some new skills and each came away with a unique piece of jewellery. My wife is having a small gem set in her ring to finish it off. The team ensured that we were all safe handling molten metal but kept it fun all through. . A good way to celebrate our anniversary.

Ros launched her luxury fashion jewellery brand 'Ros Millar' in 2010. Using traditional techniques in a modern way to create her Gothic luxe aesthetic. Ros recently opened her first bricks & mortar store in London 'Kas & Ros' in November 2018.
