For those who want to improve their crocheting skills, learn how to make some exciting new lacey designs, 3D shapes, or to embellish and join your knitting, this class offers a little bit of everything.
If you are an absolute beginner we recommend attending the morning class before as well for a full-day crochet experience, available here. Participants who have some experience are welcome to book only this afternoon session. The teacher Ayda Anlagan will tailor the class according to your ability and interests.
In this class
You will refresh the skills covered in 'Beginners Crochet', available for booking together here (chains, slip stitch, double stitch). Then, you will learn more advanced techniques including a treble stitch, understand how to combine the different stitches (single, double, treble and slip) to create texture and patterns. You will also learn to use colour to create pattern and start looking at crochet patterns for intricate designs.
Now you can
*know the fundamentals of crochet inside-out and begin to improve your skill and technique *be given practical advice on yarns, hooks and pattern reading *be a confident crochet - er!
This class will provide materials and refreshments, and you will of course be able to take home all your exciting new crochet creations!
In the 1800's, women were taught to hold a crochet hook like a pencil because it looked daintier and more feminine. These days, most crocheters hold a hook in the palm of their hand to reduce hand fatigue and carpal tunnel risks.

Fabrications - an East London based creative hub!
Fabrications is an independent gallery, shop and workshop dedicated to the best contemporary textile practice and design, with a particular interest in eco-conscious design.
Fabrications opened in June 2000 in a refurbished derelict shop on Broadway Market in Hackney, East London. The shop's founder, Barley Massey, has spent the last 16 years finding ingenious ways to turn scraps into original fabrics and using recycled materials to create cutting-edge items. Since 2012, "The Imaginarium", a fully-fitted working studio, has hosted workshops and classes.
Barley has been awarded as one of Kevin McCloud's (Grand Designs) Green Heroes for her minimally-processed, up-cycled products, which "demonstrate a lightness of touch backed up by a rigorous approach".
