Three session course
Take a leap of inspiration and create something that is truly you, with these hand-building workshops.
Playing with colour, shape and texture, pushing your ideas to create something functional and/or purely decorative.
These workshops will provide you with hand-building techniques (slab building, pinch, coiling), that give you the confidence to go ahead and create your desired piece/s. It's all about being relaxed and finding your happy place.
The workshops main focus is about pushing the boundaries of traditional forms/pieces. We explore alternative colours, shapes and textures, adding a special twist to make it all the more unique and adventurous.
We dive into the basics of creating a hand-built form with a short demo and chat. Taking inspiration from the ideas you will have collected (a little light homework prior to attending the 1st session, details provided in the confirmation email), then the building begins.
This week is split into 2 parts.
Part 1 - We review the forms made the previous week. Any changes, adaptations and finishing will be made.
Part 2 - Will be spent working on your glaze pattern tests for the following week. This allows you to practice the ideas you have and to acquaint yourself with working with underglazes, for a successful outcome.
Time to glaze the wonderful pieces you have created over the past 2 weeks.
These are 2.5hr sessions. Personal and individual guidance is given throughout.
All clay, tools, underglazes are provided and included in the fee. You are welcome to make as many pieces, as the time provides. Please note 1 piece is included in the fee. Any additional pieces incur a £3 (per piece) charge payable on the day, cash and card welcome.
*Workshops will be updated on a monthly basis. Please subscibe to keep up to date with upcoming workshops.
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
About your host, Stuff and Fings | Ceramics Workshops
'Stuff and Fings' was born out of Mandisa's love of tinkering with, well, 'Stuff and Fings'. Playing with textures and shapes, art and design, experimentation and fun are at the core of all things, 'Stuff and Fings'.
Having studied 'Surface Pattern Design' at Jacob Kramer college in Leeds, clay was never a medium she'd ever seriously considered, until recently. As a mother (to a now 7yr old), looking for something new to get her teeth into and to fit around the busy school schedule. She absolutely fell in love with clay on her first pottery taster workshop.
Ever since then, it's been full steam ahead. As a member of 'Cernamic Studio' which has provided Mandisa with the space to develop and grow, enjoying the freedom of the endless possibilities hand-building with clay opens up. The journey continues...it's the gift that keeps on giving! Now she is able to help those who would like to take their first endeavour in to working adventurously with clay.
From mid September, situated in her own studio in the hub that is Peckham Levels, with new commissions and international collaborations afoot..the journey expands.
Come dressed in something comfortable, that you don't mind getting a little bit of clay on. The studio is in the exciting hub that is Peckham Levels. Grab yourself a drink and something to eat, which you are welcome to have during the workshop. You are welcome to bring your own beer, wine etc. Peckham Rye Station is a 5 min walk to the studio.
