1 hour session
Looking to give your baby an adorably cute quilt to fall asleep under or personally craft a baby shower gift that will be treasured for years to come? Look no further and join Jill Bulgan for an inspirational workshop learning the basics of making a patchwork quilt.
In this class
You will be taken under Jill's watchful wing and guided every step of the way in making your dream, personalised patchwork quilt. Jill will show you how to source and sample suitable fabrics for patchworking as well as sharing her fabric preparation and cutting expertise.
You will be guided through the 4-step process:
- designing your basic colour and pattern blocks
- stitching the pieces together
- adding your wadding and backing
- edging the quilt.
The workshop will involve using a sewing machine, so basic experience is advised. If you've never used a machine before, check out the Sewing machine - welcome course and brush up on those sewing machine techniques.
Now you can
- press out the seams to avoid puckering / distortion as well as using finishing techniques for a professional finish
- add a backing fabric, build up your 'sandwich' (not the lunching type)
- understand how to use a 'quilting' stitch to join your layers
A gorgeous stitched baby quilt (cot size) with enough instruction and confidence to finish off the hand quilting stitching at home, which many have claimed is a soothing method of meditation!

About your host, Fabrications
Fabrications - an East London based creative hub!
Fabrications is an independent gallery, shop and workshop dedicated to the best contemporary textile practice and design, with a particular interest in eco-conscious design.
Fabrications opened in June 2000 in a refurbished derelict shop on Broadway Market in Hackney, East London. The shop's founder, Barley Massey, has spent the last 20 years finding ingenious ways to turn scraps into original fabrics and using recycled materials to create cutting-edge items. Since 2012, "The Imaginarium", a fully-fitted working studio, has hosted workshops and classes.
Barley has been awarded as one of Kevin McCloud's (Grand Designs) Green Heroes for her minimally-processed, up-cycled products, which "demonstrate a lightness of touch backed up by a rigorous approach".
Included in the price is all materials - fabrics (but you are welcome to bring your own) battoning/wadding, threads and use of equipement. Please don't 'quilt' while your ahead, sign yourself up to another creative Obby class [here]( https://obby.co.uk/courses?tag=Sewing)
