What happens in this class?

Paper marbling is a centuries-old art where paint is floated upon a bath of thickened water and drawn through with various tools to create striking, fluid patterns. In this hands-on ‘taster’ workshop you will jump straight into marbling and spend the evening creating your own beautiful marbled papers, perfect if you want to give it a go but aren’t as interested in carrying it on independently – you'll get all the fun of marbling without learning the technical details of how to prepare the equipment and materials.

Things to remember

Marbling is great fun but super messy so make sure you wear old clothes (and shoes)! You don’t need to bring anything except a healthy dose of creativity. Hot drinks and nibbles will also be on hand.

I had a great time at the paper marbling course. As it was a taster evening we got straight into marbling the paper and got to produce lots of different patterns. Lucy was really helpful and explained what to do with demonstrations. At the end of the class you could select a piece that Lucy then made into a pocket sketchbook (for a small heavily discounted additional cost). It was exciting to receive the papers and this in the post and the sketchbook is beautifully made and a lovely way to use the papers. I would highly recommend this class to everyone, it would make a great gift or just to go on your own as i did to learn a beautiful method of pattern making.

Lucy was awarded the Cockpit Arts / Arts Society grant in 2016 which funded a studio at…
